Results of Liver Biopsy

Hello,  I recently had a liver biopsy and I just wanted confirmation.  Does this mean that I do have Hepatitis C?

The results were as follows:
Microscopic Description:
Mulitple Sections show highly fragmented portons of liver.  This could be a sign of cirrhosis, but I do not see any fibrous bands and the few triads seen are small.  There is no evidence of piecemeal necrosis.  The pareenchyma shows no evidence of fat or increased pigment.  Bile duct are unremarkable.

Final Diagnosis:
Needle Biopsy of Liver- No significant pathological change, clinically hepatitis C disease.

Thank you

Even between pathologists there can be a wide variation between what they see in the slides and the slides can vary depending on the slice of the block it was made from.  In any event a biopsy is usually graded and there are a few diffrent ways to do that also but in a nut shell it goes from Normal- mild inflamation- moderate- then severe along with the varoius factors such as portal inflamation - necrosis - fibrosis - (w or w/o bridging) - then finally scarring (cirriotic) so it sounds like you are missing a lot of pertinant info

I see. There's some ambiguity in the words but it must then mean that the hepatitis has not caused any significant pathological change, which is great news.

Why don't you look for the stage and grade on that report and post it here?

The one thing I'm wondering about is the highly fragmented portions of liver. I don't know what that means but someone else will.

"No significant pathological change, clinically hepatitis C disease."

Yes, the report says you have "hepatitis C disease". Sounds like you had a previous biopsy and there has been no great change since then. When was your previous one?
