SVR @ 1 1/2 years post tx

Thank you!!! I got my lab results back and great news. SVR after 1 1/2 years post tx. It makes all I needed to go through during tx worthwhile. This note should not only be seen as a thanx to the folks on this MB who were there for me when I needed the support but also as proof positive that tx works and that success is part of this process. I remember times when I thought that taking the shots and the pills and then the other shots for the low blood cell count was just way too much for me to continue with. But I'd come here and blurt out what was going on at that point and I'd get everything I'd need to make me commit to stick with it for one more week. Usually within the weeks time, the thing that concerned me so much less than a week ago was resolved and something else took its spot. I'd go thru the process all over again and all of a sudden I was taking my last shot and my last bunch of pills! Tx was finished!!!So for all of you who were part of my tx and gave unselfishly to me; thanx for being there and helping me thru it! To all those on tx and their families and loved ones, my prayers and good wishes are on their way to you as we speak. I know it's not easy for anyone involved in this process, especially loved ones of those on tx. Ask my wife she'll tell you about her experiences thru my tx. She said that it was like being in some sort of a crazy dream. She had no idea how to deal with this new guy who showed up after I started tx!!! It was very bizarre!!! But she was given great info by my doctors and was prepared as well as one can be for the onslaught that came her way. The last group who deserves kudos are those in my tx team who helped me thru it: doctors, nurses and techs who showed me the way thru tx and gave me honest answers to my questions. I was definitely blessed with all that I was given. So keep the faith, tx works, don't give up and fight for your rights whenever necessary. Most of all: keep killing those little critters!!!   Pauly

Great news. It gives us on treatment some sorely needed hope. It seemed like I was getting close to the end and then my hepatologist sat down with me. We went over all my stats, and he recommended extending to 72 weeks. I remember being glad that I was more than half way through, and then I was less than half way again. I knew from what  I learned about Hep C (mostly here -- and I'm a doctor!) that 72 weeks gave me the best chance of SVR, but I cried when he said it out loud.

I'm still grateful that I haven't had as many problems as some others. Still working full time. Was able to climb stairs again after starting Procrit. As far as I know, I'm on everything possible that might give me an SVR: interferon, high dose ribavirin (1600/day), Alinia and Lescol. Wellbutrin, too, to calm down my frontal lobe. Some times I feel like James Brady. He was shot in the head during the Reagan assassination injuring his frontal lobe and can't control his emotions. G-d bless him.

Thirty more weeks, and I'm already imagining how I will take the news that I'm still negative or positive 6 months post treatment. Time will tell. Until then I appreciate all of the info and help from the people on this forum.

i honestly can't believe the lack of noise about this disease.

i've learned so much from my close call with it (who knows if i had it or not, unless they do another antibody test) that i want to educate people around me now. i started last night by educating my health food friend who surprisingly didn't know anything about this disease.

and congratulations, Pauly, on your SVR!

Happy Hepatitis C day  still clear day. I read that this weekend on Janis and friends site that today is" Hepatitis awareness day" and we should all do something to make someone aware that 1 in 50 people in the USA Have this including me of coarse. A quite epidemic compared to others that get all the attention . So little awareness and so big a problem . There is a patition you can down load and instructions on how to contact your local gov ect and make your voice heard . All non us cits should tell start making your vocies heard too. Let the world know in any way you can about this today.
Enjoy your longer healthier life  Pauly, 12 days tx ,Jan

Pauly,

Looks like we did it after all huh?  Hard to imagine when we were dying and complainning and crying and whining and wanting SO bad for it all to be over that we'd not only make it but achieve SVR too!

I'm SO GLAD for you - the happiness that I see when it's someone that i"ve been there and done that with just makes me stay here and encourage others that they can too.

I would NEVER have believed I could have done it either without people pushing me onwards when I wanted to give up. The longest 72 weeks of my life but.......totally worth it.
