Second TX - 24 weeks to 48 Weeks, SX Question.

I posted this as a reply in a thread I should not have. I'll try again.
I relpased after a 24 week TX for Geno type-2.
It is recommended I TX again for 48 weeks.
At 48 weeks will the SX get progressivly worse or stay as they were when I ended my 24 weeks in the last TX?
I seemed to have leveled out in the SX department when week 24 came around. My nupregen was low and would have been addressed if I would have had to go longer?

Your opinins please?

Great Board.

I'm glad you decided not to re-treat right now. You and your thal deserve a break until something better suited comes along. So, what's your thinking? Watching for a couple of years, tracking viramidine?  Any good nibbles on the house yet?

There are alot of us 2's that have relapsed after 24 weeks of tx.  I wish all who are on tx a second or for the first time, that they get to SVR.

NYgirl- Debbie, How are you feeling?  I'm doing fine, just been busy and not on the forum much. Can't believe the holidays are here again and your on shot 61.  I can remember when you just started.  I got a call today from the Maryland trial but I had already decided not to retreat, just as well as I wasn't accepted because of my thalassemia.  The Dr did say he thought I was better off waiting for the new drugs that will be out soon and not retreating with the Peg and riba.

BOB I was just talking about you yesterday to a friend of mine and wondering where you were! I've been SO worried about you!  you have to KNOW you are in my thoughts - big time.

I can tell you from my experience - sides come and go and come and go.  I'm on week 61 of 72 right now and without a doubt the hardest part of all of the sides was managing the anemia and getting it under control.

The lethargy and chills and stuff is all annoying but manageable. No doubt that for my body - the beginning and getting used to pumping the poisons in, that intial body shock was definitely the hardest part.

Sometimes now - on a good day - I even forget I am going treatment.  Hard to believe!

48 weeks is very doable or I wouldn't be going for 72 because i am a BIG baby!

good luck - this whole "easy" geno BS HYPE is making me SO MAD I can't stand it anymore.  There are WAY too many relapses for the 80% odds to be correct from what I've seen. WAYYYYY too many.

The next time someone says they are "lucky" they have the "lucky" geno I am going to find the doctor who's told them that and punch em in the nose!  ;)

Thanks Folks,

I will TX again.
I was clear at 10 weeks and at 24. The 6 months told the tale.
My SX's were.

Thinning hair.
Half strength.
4-each quarter sized sores on the legs. (low nupregen)
Nausia.
Insomnia.
A short temper. I was on 10mg Lexapro.
Sore body, tight muscles, joint pain.

THank you all for sharing. It is reassuring to hear that I am not alone. I am genotype 2b; relasped after 24 weeks and just started round #2- (pegintron) for 48 weeks(week #6). I am wondering the same thing about symptoms-

I to am a geno 2B and relapsed after 24 weeks of tx. I was unable to treat longer because of my thallassemia so I decided to wait for better drugs.  I would have to say that 24 or 48 weeks the sxs are probably the same from what I've seen here on the forum.  Have you decided to retreat?

48 weeks is twice as long but not twice as bad if that makes any sense. My second round sides were about the same as the first. At least you know what to expect. After 24 weeks I was on auto pilot.

I am 56 male geno 2 stage 3 did 24 weeks of Pegasys and riba clear at week 12 & EOT at 4 months post relapsed. I just completed 48 weeks of peg-intron clear at 4, 24. & 49. On hold until next PCR

Good luck

Sorry about your relapse, my first 24 weeks about the only sx i had was my HGB tanked and went on procrit. Pushing 48 weeks and sx's are catching up with me. Depending on your job i guess depends on what you do. I would still be able to work full time but i have to look like i'm still alive and my short term memory has to be sharp. Plus i lossed 40 lbs. Don't know if its the meds just wearing me down or just a stage i'm in right now. Really i've been lucky, hardly no rash and haven't had mouth sores or to much stomach problems. Slight headaches and tire easy.
From what i've heard here sx's effect just about everyone different. On whatever you decide i wish you the best. Take care
