I gained weight during S/O treatment. I didn't really need to as I had put on weight during short treatment for autoimmune. I just finished treatment about a week ago and figure weight will come off. My ammonia levels are great so no increase for me on the lactulose end (pardon the pun). However, lactulose is the new fix for constipation.
Yes, my appetite increased and I thought maybe that's not such a bad thing? Meds can take away nutrients so eating more (I thought) would be a good way to replace them. But yes, I gained about 8 pounds that have mostly come off since I quit almost 2 months ago. I really do think I could have kept myself from eating more if I wanted to, but I kind of went for it. None of my business really, and you don't have to answer, but why are you taking lactulose? My sister has decompensated cirrhosis and she has to take it to keep regular (but thankfully, her doctor cut her dose a little bit) and to make sure her amonia levels are in balance. Lactulose is a synthetic sugar. I'm glad it sounds like you're doing okay (for the most part)!
Has your appetite increased?
I'm trying to remember the stage of fibrosis you are since I can't really search the forum on my iPad but do you mean you are gaining while on treatment?
I guess first be sure it is not fluids or water retention and second among other things (ammonia and all that) as an osmotic laxative isn't Lactulose move your bowel? Hope this isn't TMI but I can look and feel pretty hefty if I am not regular if you know what I mean./
I am on my 4th week of Sol/Oly and I find it gives me a bigger appetite. It is not something I needed, so I am really trying to fight the urges. IT is not just overwhelming but I am wanting something to eat way more often.
