Spontaneous bruising around eyes while on tx

Hi Everyone,
My hubby, Rick is in his 5th month of tx. He is on 180 mg Pegysus pr wk and 1000 mg riba daily, plus Procrit and Neupogen once a wk for low red and white blood cells. He's had a rough time- he was in the hospital a couple weeks ago for a blood transfusion. Today, the skin around his eyes is all red- the places where his glasses rest is deep red, like it's bruised. Underneath his eyes and especially on his eyelids is red. It seems like broken blood vessels or something- I'm quite nervous about bleeding. His platelets were 72 the last we heard- not bad.
Has anyone had this happen to them? It's making me nervous. He did his weekly shot of Procrit oday, if that matters.

my eyeslids were a deep pink thru the entire tx.  Still are but only a few days off.  In fact one of my eye lids became inflamed and swollen.  Sound like his are worse.

My platelets were not as low as his.  Platelets dropped at times but ran about 130 for the last 4 months.  My hb was low at 8.6 & ANC dropped pretty low to 300 (I ended at this point).

Sorry these 5 months have been so hard.  Hopefully he will level out soon and start tolerating it.

My immediate guess would be this is caused by low platelets; make sure his doctors are aware of this, just in case. Sorry to hear he’s having a rough time with it--

Bill
