Thanks for the recommendation of the "Magic Mouthwash"
I had printed off several posts one which lynda, also willbb posted and showed my Hepatologist yesterday and he provided a Prescription for the "Magic Mouthwash" in a matter of one day my mouth has improoved by 60%. I was advised to keep an eye out for any form of sore that may appear on the tongue or any white coating which stays on the tongue if so the Peg Interferon would have to be reduced.
Thankyou all for your help and support for the remain of my 2 months treatment.
Regards to the swollen tongue and the soreness of the tongue, anything with a little salt or spice does not go down well and a piece of crust like toast.
Mashed potato has been ideal but you tend to get burned out eating the same thing all the time.eating ice cream to cool the tongue at times helps only temporarily.
ANY LITTLE MENU WE CAN ALL CREATE AMONGST EACH OTHER?
Many Thanks for all your advice and concern related to some medication in which to ease the symptoms of a Swollen Tongue & sore tongue while on treatment for Hepatitis C.
It appears i shall ask my hepatologist for "The Magic Mouthwash" also as the burning, stinging sensation can be very irritating, and the colour of the tongue can become very dark at times.Wish i could buy it over the counter so i could get it sooner.
I shall also print this post off and bring it to my next appointment.
In the US, they have the standard issue "Magic Mouthwash" or at least CVS does and if the doc writes Magic Mouthwash on the script you get a pink solution 300 ML that contains Nystatin, Dexamethasone, Tetracycline and an Antihistamine. Swish with that stuff and you can't feel your tongue for about 10 minutes. It really does clear up the medicine mouth.
I will copy this to my pharmacist, It sounds better than just the my nystatin that I'm on, I have not cleared up my issue in a week, thanks!
hrsepwrguy & all :
magic mouthwash is usually a custom made blend of ingredients(at least it is that way in Canada)
The doc writes a RX for the things he wants in it and then the pharmacy mixes it up.
The mixture I used that worked great for some sores on tx. as well as some oral lichen planus I I have flare up at times is:
Nystatin(this fights any fungal infection) Dexamethasone(this is an anti-inflamare) Tetracycline(antibiotic for bacteria) and Benadryl(antihistamine)
Swished it around 3 times a day for a min or 2 and cleared everything up in a day or two.
Hope that hepls ..
Will
Does the magic mouth wash work for severe soar throat as well, it strarted off mild but has slowly progressed to borderline severe. I have an appointment to see my GI on teusday and will discuss it with him then but was wondering if it would help.
Hey Cliff, my tongue is swollen, you know where ya bite your cheeks some time? I haven't done that, but that's where my skin is raw & sore. The out side cracks of my smile are now raw and red, I have been swishing with "Mi nystatin ( a thrush medicine) several times a day, it helps some, I drink a ton of water too. You may have a candida infection like I did, it is common with tx. You should stop eating sugar and bread because candida feeds on the yeast and sugar you eat. Yea I know, that's what you can eat, it *****. I am running out of options too. I want to be sedated through this treatment and be woken up when it's over!!!! Food is completely different, It will all go back to normal when your off these meds, I promise. We need to compose a list in this forum of foods we can eat successfully so we can all submit our ideas to this. I will start one after this comment to you. I use to have a what they call a " sophisticated pallet", now everything just about tastes like death and smells like death too! My husband has to cook, I can't stand anything cooking, I breath mostly through my mouth so I don't smell the horror! Ok, so like I say, research " THRUSH" and talk to your doctor. your dentist can also write you a prescription for this med. Stay away from sugar and yeast and good luck, hugs, carolyn
I started feeling like my tongue was swollen early week one. Especially at night. For me it felt related to the the hydration issues. I guzzled more and more water and it seems to be under control. Your issue may not be related since you are so far into treatment, but in case it helps...
Hi , I had sore mouth for only 1 day w/o anemia. my doc @ trial said oragell. I used it once and gone sore mouth...However I think my sore mouth was different than your swollen tounge. So you should call your doctor and ask them what to do. And as always other's may know better than I what to do for your sore , swollen tounge :-)... Hey call your doc and see if you can try some oragell maybe and discribe your troubles .. Good luck to you.. Blondie
