Traveling with medication

I am wondering if anyone has had to travel for extended periods of time and needed to take meds with you....I have purchased a frio bag from Amazon that is supposed to keep injection cold for 45 hours....does anyone have any experience with this?

I promised my friend I'd go to her family reunion with her in Tennessee - for a week - I am praying I can make it through - I get tired from going to the mailbox...

Thanks,
Brenda

most large pharms ,will send meds .walmart sends across country. you need the # of store & order well in advance .It will be in their fridge .         just a thought  upon looking back ,I would have to KNOW the injectables were in the system. also that they order ahead of time .                bob

I was 3 weeks in Central America at about 6th week of TX.  Had a note from doc about meds for US customs but didn't need it.  I used a fabric insulated cooler and lots of cold packs, which I could refreeze before making the trip back.  Used the cooler and coldpacks also to carry a mid-day dose but you should not need to do that.

The good news is that you may sleep a little better with all that exercise.

Important!  Don't go anywhere unless you know there will be a place for you to sit down, even if it's just in the shade of a tree.  Sit down in line if you need to.  Don't try to keep up, but do the best you can.  Don't be shy about missing some parts of the itinerary.  Your body will tell you what you can do.  Have fun.

My Doc provided me with a traveling bag from the Be In Charge Program along with some freezie packs. Ive used it and it keeps my water bottles cold for about 12 hours lol..

Seriously though I love the Be in Charge program. Its nice have an on hand nurse 24/7 and on TX it always makes you feel better when someone calls to check on you.

Staying awake - - I am terrified of missing this wonderful itinerary that my two best buds sent me for the trip:

( reminder, my days consist of forgetting to eat, forgetting words, thoughts etc....insomnia, extreme exhaustion, making a tv dinner in the microwave is like cooking a gourmet meal)

and they want to:

visit Graceland, Rock and Roll hall of fame, Grand Ol Opera, Country music hall of fame and Dollyworld.......HAHAHA -

But I'm going.....

My Roche contact said it's more important to NOT FREEZE the interferon than to let it go slightly below recommended temperature. If too cold, the syringe can get hairline cracks and the interferon become contaminated and ineffective very quickly, whereas it will survive room temperature longer, even if not ideal.

I used refrigerated packs rather than ice packs to transport my interferon but it was only a trip of three hours. And I stored it with several thermometers  to reassure me that it had stayed within the correct temperature range.

There are some very good threads in the archives about transporting meds:

I have traveled while treating and the travel kits work well.  Most hotel rooms either have a fridge or access to plenty of ice.  I never had a problem.

Staying awake is  much more serious problem - LOL.
