Treat Costochondritis?

Remember that horrible bloated painful feeling----- Update on condition....  so after spending all day getting EKG, chest xrays and labs done the good news it is NOT heart related or life threatening.... BAD news it is a condition called costochondritis which is still painful.  Evidently after I came off the Incivek and got the 2 blood transfusions I felt good enough to overdo it a tad.  Normal life stuff didn't seem wrong but after spending most of 12 weeks in bed I guess it was.  I am anemic and they say to take advil, IB, or Aleve to relieve the pain. (needs an anti inflammatory type of med) Trying to figure out now which one would be best--- any thoughts you doctor brains out there?

the medicinal ingredient in Advil is ibuprofin..so they are one in the same

Aleve contains(naproxen and for the most part is considered an excellent OTC anti.inflammatory drug..with a bit longer acting mechanism than ibuprofen and most would say somewhat stronger  for relief

Like any anti inflammatory . they can be dangerous to those with advanced liver damage due to  blood-thinning action ,therefore possible bleeding problems and should always be ok'd by your physician.

Best ..

Hi, so sorry to hear about the problem you are having.  I had that once and the doctor gave me a stretchy velcro bandage to wrap around my rib cage.  It helped to provide support and the pain wasn't as bad.  I also started physical therapy to try to help it.
I would take Motrin though after reading Will's post perhaps Aleve would be better.
I hope you feel better soon.
