First biopsy: 2000 (waiting to obtain results of diagnosis) mild damage at this point. Gastro recommendation to Wait and see and redo biopsy in 6 years.

Liver needle biopsy: chronic hepatitis.
Etiology: hepatitis c.
Degree of activity:grade 2 (mild portal inflammation with piecemeal necrosis and spotty necrosis).
Degree of fibrosis/cirrhosis:grade 2 (periportal fibrosis with rare septa,no bridging).
Modified hai (knodell) score : 6
Periportal piecemeal necrosis: 1.
Intralobular degeneration/ focal necrosis: 1
Portal inflammation: 3.
Fibrosis: 1.
Steatosis: mild (1+) steatosis is present.
Other lesions: negative pas and iron stain.
Co-existing pre-neoplastic lesions: none.
Grading and staging schemes are from Ludwig and Batts
Gastro explained that since first biopsy. Grade and inflammation both increased from a 1 and 2 to a 2 and 3.
Enrolled in Schering-Plough sponsored study comparing genotype 1 not previously treated. 2880 subjects at 100 various sites. Subjects will be selected to take the following dosing.
