What to expect after finishing Incivek

Hubby has less than 3 wks. to go on Incivek.  What can we expect as far as HOPEFULLY a reduction in side effects?  He's kinda livin' for the day that at least one of these drugs goes away, and I'm wanting his expectations to be realistic.  Thanks.

Thanks for all the info & tips.  I will pass them along to him (he doesn't do the computer....)  He will be very relieved if the anal issues go away, so we will look forward to that being a possibility.  With all the sides, it's hard to know which drug is causing what, and now he's taking Zofran which is a blessing, but has some sides as well.  The Zofran has made the 2 days post-injection much easier, and he's eating a lot more and a lot better, which seems to help the sides.
We'll just keep looking forward and counting down the weeks, and hope he stays UND!

When I finished the Incivek I expected to feel better immediately, but instead I felt slightly worse for about 4-5 days. I was really bummed about it - my g.i. problems (nausea, abdominal cramping and diarrhea got worse) and my rash got worse. The good news is after those first few days I had a break in which I not only felt better, I felt downright GREAT. That lasted about 10 days before the sx from the other two drugs started to compete for my attention. I know at least 2 other forum members who've had that same pattern upon finishing the Incivek, so I think it is worthwhile to be prepared for grabbing that good time and doing some of the backlog of things your husband has been feeling to sick to do! I hope he does get the burst of feeling great. Best wishes!

He will feel better, I got my appetite back, rectal stuff went away almost right away and hardly ever have any nausea now. Just don't end the 20 g of fat right away. My rash stayed with me for about 2 more weeks after Incivek was over, but improved daily.

I've been off Incivek 4 days and I do feel better.
Not being tied to the meds makes a big difference.
Also, I seem  to have a little more energy.

I do still have the nasty taste in my mouth and food still
does not taste right, but overall I do feel a little better.

I'll be interested to see how I feel in two weeks.

My Incivek side effects started decreasing and disappearing almost immediately, in a day I noticed it. However, as Advocate mentioned, the other meds have side effects too and some of the side effects may be from them, not the Inc.

For me, the anal rectal issue cleared rapidly. But the nausea hung on and the rash kept getting worse. So those sides were more from the other 2 drugs than the Inc.

I am sure he will will feel better. One of the best things about getting off Inc is that a person can get a decent night's sleep without have to awaken to eat a bunch of fat and takes meds. I noticed that right away too.

Within 24-48 hrs Incivek sides went away. Haven't had problems with the other two drugs. He has to hang tough, as he has. It would be unthinkable to throw away an UND at 4 weeks ... that's not what you're suggesting, just saying it was always helpful to me to think in those terms. It's also helpful to be positive and believe the suffering will end. And it does.

Hopefully the anal/rectal discomfort and diarrhea will ease up within a few days of stopping Incivek.  Hopefully the rash, if he still has one, will begin to clear.  Hopefully he will feel less fatigued and/or less anemic, if he's currently anemic.  Remind him that the Interferon and Ribavirin also cause side effects, so he will still have some, but hopefully he will notice an improvement within a few days to a week.
