This is a very old comment thread originally started in 2009.

It would be a much better idea for you to go to the top of the page and click the green post a question link.

That way everyone will notice you have asked a new question you will get many more responses.

another group you could also take a look at is the post treatment issues group they may be able to help as well

Good luck

I just finished Ribavirin and sofosbuvir (Sovaldi) on Monday after 3 months. Had a hard time.  Felt like I had a bad cold most of the time and a ton of other stuff plus my emotions were on the Proverbial  Edge.  I would go from 0 to 120 in just a few seconds.  It wasn't fun as it was also very stressful to deal with because, stress drains me.  My viral load went from 9.8 million to just 37 in 4 wks and have remained.  About 2 days off I woke up hung over and I've not had any alcohol since New Years.  Today again I feel the same way and that is the only thing I can think of.  So, I came to look for possible withdrawal symptoms.  Had not thought about it until today sooo here I am.  Would love to here if you have had that problem.

To all who have posted,
I haven't treated yet, I'd like to Thank You all for being able to read everybodys' experiences, pre/during/after. It seems like it will be rough road ahead, but I'm ready to start driving regardless of any detours. I really wasn't aware of post symtoms until now, but the detoxing makes sense to me.
Wishing wellness to all, Thanks again! Mike

Hi saw your post and wanted to say that there are many people who take time to recover from the treatment.  At first I was told 3 months, then my doctor said it would take about 6 months however two other doctors said a year.
It takes time but it should get better.  I have read about people who have had problems with their thyroid post tx.  You could always get that checked out
Good Luck to you

Did anybody treat these weird post-TX joint pain episodes?  Do you just wait them out like all of the other odd post TX things that pop up and go away later?

For about 2 months post tx I experienced a lot of joint pain, esp in hands and wrists.  It was very concerning, since I work with my hands.  In the last 2 months it has all gone away!  I am now 16 wks post tx.  Yes, it takes some time, and this varies for everyone, so hang in there, and know you should be feeling better soon.

Its funnymthey say the interferon has a half life of a few days, but some say the effects linger on,same with the RIBA,as soon as you stop taking the PEG,your HGB goes back to normal almost overnite....so im thinkn the curing properties of the drugs end as soon as we stop taking them,BUT the after effects linger in some people....anyway,ive decided to go back on my healthy super food trip with my mushrooms and algae....the TX drugs have done there job.now its time for me to boost my system,i cant see it doing any harm...i know one thing, the algae takes puts me in a happy mood.

Docs say not to count on interferon effects being completely gone (and that may be debateable) until 6 mos. post-TX.  Temporary emotional upset usually whacks you unexpectedly a few weeks after TX.  I had headaches for 6 wks after stopping TX and took max dose of tylenol allowed for most days; weird since I had no fever or headaches during TX and almost never used tylenol at all the whole time.  I guess it's just sort of a gradual body readjustment, like Lauri says, until all of the TX drugs are gone.

TX is a drag and we survived it; guess we'll survive this weird post part, too.

I gained weight post also, but it was all fatty cells. I've since lost it all, gotten back to normal but it was odd as it seemed I had developed fatty cells everywhere! Now I am having trouble being too thin!

Hi. I'm one that went thru a hard time post, labeling my first 5-8 wks, post as some of my worst in tx!  Emotionally and physically.

I think many of us feel that it takes some of us, our bodies, mths, to learn to 'work again', balance things on it's own, with no Riba, Interferon taking over, etc. I totally believe it's a 'withdrawel' syndrome, just not in the sense of addiction withdrawel. Our bodies have to adapt too all the changes these drugs brought on, then adapt to having none in our system.
I'm 17 mths. post and still deal with a lot of muscle pain, issues. It took me a yr. to even start to feel 'normal'. Not to scare you, worry you, as I'm one of a few compared to many that bounce back so much better, just to let you know it's 'normal' to take some time to feel right again. Joint, muscle pain is mentioned the most in post tx, and during.

You'll heal up, hopefully fast, LL

Yes,i do believe there may be some kind of reaction to the absence of taking these very powerful drugs every day for one year.I am now getting headaches and stiff neck muscles ,but wwile on TX i had nothing,This may be just muscle stiffness in my neck from a sleeping positoin,i wll keep and eye open to see ifthis persists.Otherwise im doing ok.

A dear hepper friend of mine described the first few months post treatment as "de toxing" .  I agree, after having done this happy c rappy twice, I think there is some kind of withdrawal that does on.

It takes quite a while usually to get all the meds out of your system.  The interferon should be gone in about two weeks however the ribavirin will take much longer than that. I don't think that they are classic withdrawl symptoms but pains and things are pretty common after treatment for some. You have to give yourself some time to recover - it won't happen over night.

I have been off tx for almost 5 wks.  I have had alot of pain in my legs and hips.  My migraines have gotten worse, which gives me nausua.  I have been told there are no withdrawal symptons, but I disagree.  My bones in my legs seem to just THROB!!!!  But, I do have to say that it isn't as bad now as it was the first couple of wks.

It usually takes some time to feel better and to get back to normal. I was lucky to quite quickly feel better. No withdrawal symptoms, just feeling a tiny little bit better every day.
