It's hard to draw any conclusions based on your enzyme values alone. Have you been diagnosed with Hep C yet? It coud indicate an acute HCV infection, in which case you probably have zero liver damage -- it could also indicate a host of other things, including a temporaty flare, like I had after taking the wrong kind of  Chinese Herbs.
Are you currently seeing a liver specialist (hepatologist)? They would be in the best position to evaluate your condition.

looks like you got great answers.
I'd want to know also what medications you are on. everything from caffeine to beer to pot to pain pills and 3000 other drugs can effect liver enymes. You need to research each pill you are on.

there's only so much medication your liver can deal with on top of 2 major viruses.

DO NOT go off all your medicine, but there are sometimes safer alternatives that may have been overlooked. For instance some drugs are metabolized mainly in the liver, some the kidneys pretty much handle.
I cut my liver enymes in half just by changing one medication based on what I read on pub me.
of course my docs argued the drug couldn't be effecting my live, but the proof was in the labs!!

the truth is, docs aren't up on the pharmachology of drugs, nor do they keep abreast of new info, whci get updated the longer a drug is around. Unless you keep abreast for your own good health, don't expect them to. they are far too busy, and there's way more info out there than anybody can keep up with.

what heart med are you on, and for what condition? Going off may not be wise.

Alanine aminotranferease (ALT) and aspartate aminotransferase (AST) are enzymes located in liver cells that leak out into the general circulation when liver cells are injured. These two enzymes were previously known as the SGPT (serum glutamic-pyruvic transaminase) and the SGOT (serum glutaic-oxaloacetic transaminase). These two transaminase enzymes may be reported on lab slips with both their new names and previous names or by their newer names only. ALT and AST are present in highest concentrations in cells from the liver, heart, skeletal muscles, and red blood cells. Patients whose LFTs show a predominant rise in the transaminases have liver diseases that are characterized by hepatocellular damage.

ALT is found predominately in the liver, with lesser quantities found in the kidneys, heart, and skeletal muscle. As a result, the ALT is a more specific indicator of liver inflammation than the AST, as the AST may also be elevated in diseases affecting other organs, such as the heart or muscles. The AST is also elevated after a myocardial infarction, and during acute pancreatitis, acute hemolytic anemia, severe burns, acute renal disease, musculoskeletal diseases, and trauma. Because intramuscular (IM) injections cause muscle trauma that may release AST and ALT into the bloodstream, IM injections should be avoided before LFTs are done. If an IM injection must be given close to the time blood for LFTs is drawn, the nurse should indicate on the lab slip the time the injection is given. Many liver enzyme tests are also affected by medications. It is important to consult the laboratory manual for medications that should be considered in the interpretation of test results, and to indicate such medications on the lab slip.

Mogey, it really does sound like something is going on in the liver.  Did you clear the virus before?  Do you have any of those old lab reports?  I think you need to have teh hepatitis C viral load test run again.  There could be other reasons for liver damage to.  I wish you well.

Those numbers are atrocious and you need to see a doctor immediately - your liver is being damaged tremendously most likely with numbers that high.

When a liver cell dies it releases an enzyme...so the higher the number the more cell death going on.  My numbers post treatment were just 20 and 14.  That is where they should be.

These tests measure how well your liver is functioning. These numbers are normally under 50 or so. Yours are way high which is not good. You need nore info such as a liver biopsy and see a Hepatologist. Good Luck.
