Two possible causes of the fatigue and malaise encountered by so many with HCV  (and they said it has no real symptoms!!!) are the ongoing cytokine production from strong antibody responses to the HCV, thus simulating an autoimmune disease, such as Lupus.  Typical symptoms of these sorts of illnesses is fatigue, depression, lack of motivation, and also many of the other aches and pains familiar to HCV sufferers.

The other possible cause might be the impact of the virus on the brain and central nervous system.  Whether the virus directly infects and impairs the brain and CNS or only causes immune responses and cytokine production in the brain and CNS is a moot point.  The net effect is the same.  Lots of fatigue, mood, memory, and motivation related symptoms.  Its a tough disease to live effectively with, and ruins the quality of many lives out there.  I spent over 25 years dealing with the sx before my SVR.  Many of these wonderful sx still linger, after five years HCV free.

Attitude, ambition and fatigue all go hand in hand for me.  Today for example, I sat on the couch for a couple of hours, just sitting here. And then i said "F% this, I got dressed and went to the mall (this took alot of effort) I bought a pair of jeans, that actually fit.  i came home dyed my hair, took a shower got dressed and when my husband came home, i said we are going out to dinner"  (ok so the dinner was at 5:00 with all the seniors) but my attitude got me up and out, and almost feeling "normal"

wow now that i have done all that and typed this i have go to sleep....

Yes, one of the biggest areas that will affect your whole life, including attitude and especially motivation is fatigue.  Fatigue will wipe out your social life, your physical life, sometimes any outside activity you do.  Sometimes I am so exhausted, I get home from work and out for my nap I go.  Sure I usually wake up around 7 or 8, but then there just went the whole day and sometimes I wake up and I'm still tired.  It's very frustrating and this is just one aspect of having HepC.  When you bring aches and pains into the mix and then you add, anger, depression etc. yes it becomes overwhelming and affects your attitude.  Here's an article on fatigue, it's very old, but it was all I could find for right now.  later

"Fatigue Affecting People With Liver Disease"

Why do patients with liver disease become fatigued and what can they do about it?  One of the most common and debilitating symptoms among individuals with liver disease is fatigue. It is universal toall varieties of liver disease from Primary Biliar Cirrhosis to Chronic Hepatitis C. In some patients, fatigue begins several years after the diagnosis of liver disease is made. In others, it was the primary reason for seeking medical attention. In such individuals multiple visits are made to a variety of physicians in search of a cause of their extreme lassitude. Some patients even seek psychiatric evaluation, as an accompanying symptom is often depression. Fatigue may occur at any time of day but is most common in the morning about an hour after awakening. By 9 a.m. one may
already feel the exhaustion of a full workday. Others describe weakness and a lack of energy throughout the entire day. Their usual "pep" is now gone. Even little tasks become more trying and around 4 p.m., they simply must lie down to take a nap. The treatment of fatigue can be challenging. First, a search for all other potential causes should be made, as some are easily treated. Thyroid disease and anemias commonly coexist with liver disease and canworsen any existing lethargy. Nutritional deficiencies as well as disturbances in fluid balance also contribute to exhaustion. Primary depression from causes other than liver disease lead to fatigue and may require pharmacological control.  Finally, all medications that the patient is taking must be reviewed and the unnecessary ones eliminated.  If all of the above conditions are corrected, and fatigue continues to persist, there are a few simple measures that may
be of help. A healthy, low fat, well balanced diet, cessation of smoking, alcohol intake in moderation, and a daily exercise routine are all essential lifestyle adjustments. Any excess weight should be eliminated with a sound weight reducing diet. The demands of a hectic job or home life may need to be modified, as an overworked, overwhelmed
person even without liver disease may suffer from fatigue. If possible, a 30-45 minute daytime nap can help to rejuvenate the patient, and may need to be incorporated into a schedule. Finally, one must remember that the treatment for fatigue does not come in a bottle as many medications, whether over-the-counter or prescription, may adversely affect the liver (as well as the wallet). One must always consult with the hepatologist prior to trying any new fad products that promise to cure fatigue.

I agree with that.  I accepted years of homelessness and abuse because I could not hold a job.  I roamed the Florida Keys with my bike and tent for years, working here and there, doing this and that.  After the Keys got old I roamed the National forests of America (now I had a van) doing this and that, here and there.  I came back to Babylon about 10 years ago, learned of my HCV in 2003.  I have been on AD's and gave up on trying to work.  Burning way to many bridges trying to hold a job in my home town.  I wish I knew what will be next.  Or do I???

Fatigue is very common with hepc, especially while going through treatment.  I can't say that I lack ambition as much as it is a lack of motivation.  There have been times in my life where I did lack all ambition and there have been other times where I was overly ambitious.  Circumstances in my life usually determined how well my ambition would work for me.  Currently, while undergoing treatment, I have continued to work full time but there are days I am so tired I do not know if I can continue.  My ambition as in presenting myself well at work and doing the best job I can remains, but it's all I can do to put one foot in front of the other just to get to work.  This is not everyday, but it does happen.
Depression is another side effect of hepc and hepc treatment.  Depression will overwhelm an individual and rob them of positive feelings and a sense of well being.  If you suspect you are becoming depressed, speak with your doctor about an antidepressant.  I do not take any but so many on this forum have said what a difference it has made in the lives.  Good Luck -  hope all works out for you.

Absolutely Jerry. That is the chief complaint for most with HCV
Most of us are just plain tired - no drive.
When we do have a good day we tend to overdo it and that can put us on the sidelines for a few days after.
Actually, I used to tell my Dr. that I'm sick and tired of being sick and tired!
He understood as most here do.

Hi jerry welcome to the forum, I would say I might very well do.
With the fatigue that goes along for many of us with HCV, and have done so for many years, its not easy to stay ambitios.

I have been suffering and also accusing my self for not being ambitios enough many times, others has aswell.

Thanks for asking the question has never thought about that before, that HCV could the, or one of the reasons.
