cirrohsis

My mother has stage 4 cirrohsis catagory b I believe. Her condition is getting worse. She is now retaining water in her ankles and feet. Her numbers are getting worse and her stomach is getting larger although her weight has declined. How long can she go on like this. Just want to know if anyone has experienced this or knows someone who has? Does she have weeks, months or years? Doctors already told us to be prepared but I want to know more! Just lost my dad this last May and am wondering if my mom will make it to next year. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I am very sorry to read about your mother and the situation the two of you have found yourselves facing. Unfortunately, I can't shed any more light on your questions as only her treating doctors are truly in a position to  answer them. Anything you hear or read on the internet will not be based upon your mother's exact medical condition, her latest labs, clinical observations, and complete medical history.

The best advice I can give you is to tell the docs just what you posted: "I want to know more!"  The doctors will do their best to answer all of your questions fully, I'm sure. If they can't give you a firm answer to any question, inquire as to the factors that make it hard for them to do so.

I do hope that you get the answers you seek from her docs if that will help you through this difficult time.
regards,
ML
