"I never heard of it until the quote yesterday"
Don't make me look, but I KNOW you were in on some of the old Merkin threads from days gone by.
"High in phosphorous and phosphoric acid, [soft drinks] infiltrate bodily fluids and corrode stomach linings, upset the alkaline-acid balance of the kidneys, and eat away at your liver," said Barnet Meltzer, M.D., author of "Food Swings."

I saw mention of a merkin last week on msn.com in an article about celebrities who overshare. I laughed!!!
I never heard of it until the quote yesterday - why in God's name would somebody talk about something like that to a journalist, there is just no shame left in this world (well I guess when you strip down enough for a movie to need one there's really no more modesty involved).
I wonder if they make merkins for me? ;)
Virgocharm: Sorry you're having to deal with this issue -- let us know how it turns out.
Bill and FIGuy: Merkins....baaaahahahahaha I had never heard of a merkin until a movie came out (was it Charlies Angels or something like that) and the yacht was called The Merkin. I had to look up Merkin and was shocked that there actually was a time when such a private-part-wig was popular. :)
80 % of all big pharma drugs are made from plants and herbs, its just syntehized(spelling) and you get side effects this way
I think I met her! Oh, I really want to add to this thread but I'm on probation-ha ha-so I have to cool it. On a sober note I think some homeopathic remedies are fine. BILL/ Rocker didn't say to swallow his remedy. It is harmless except to the bacteria (good and bad)
in the mouth.
I agree with you though that a black tongue would be alarming enough for me to run to the nearest hospital-hair or no hair!
Back in my younger and wilder days of late night bar crawling, I did end up in the sack with a gal with this particular malady. In the morning I realized I was situated in bed in the wrong direction, sort of a bow-to-stern kinda thing. That explained the goatee and her super-fleshy knees too.
You're right on the money FLdude - y'wanna keep them merkins buttoned down tight.
Or better yet:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Evidence-based_practice
“…In the past this has often left the door open to quackery perpetrated by individuals who had no training at all in the domain, but who wished to convey the impression that they did for profit or other motives. As the scientific method became increasingly recognized as the means to provide sound validation for such methods, it became clear that there needed to be a way of excluding quack practitioners not only as a way of preserving the integrity of the field (particularly medicine), but also of protecting the public from the dangers of their "cures." Furthermore, even where overt quackery was not present, it was recognized that there was a value in identifying what actually does work so it could be improved and promoted…”
Sheesh.
Try a few drops tee tree oil or stevia extract in 1/4 cup water with somw baking soda
Hahaha! Merkins again! ROFL!!
Black hairy tongue has been associated with the partners of people who are on riba/Peg combo therapy. Many people here have reported hair loss while on treatment. It's gotta go somewhere. Or, weak merkin glue.
Ewwwwwww................
I remembered! I took the drug Flagyl for about a week when in my twenties....
Thats was the drug that gave me a black tongue...NOT hairy though!
Something tells me this is going to be a long thread....
Feel Fetter Virgocharm!
Goodnight David!
Goodnight Chet!
"Although black, hairy tongue may look alarming..."
Yeah - 'specially if'n it's in your mouth or in your bed!
Wow, this is from the Mayo clinic site; I wonder if this describes what you have?
http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/black-hairy-tongue/DS01134
"Black, hairy tongue is a temporary, harmless (benign) oral condition that gives your tongue a dark, furry appearance. The distinct look of black, hairy tongue usually results from an overgrowth of bacteria in the mouth.
Although black, hairy tongue may look alarming, it doesn't cause any health problems. Black, hairy tongue usually resolves without medical treatment."
Yikes, I hope so.
Bill
I've never heard of this before; treatment not withstanding. I’d walk myself to the doctor tomorrow first thing; it may be nothing, but better safe that sorry. If they can’t help you I the morning, consider a trip to ER or at lest ask them what to do. Even a dentist might be able to provide information if you can get to one easily.
My goodness. Good luck to you, I hope this all works out—
Bill
My tongue was darker than usual during treatment and was totally clean. I have not heard of a blackish tongue though, so I really don't know what to say.
If you are scared, call your nurse/doctor right away.
Hope that it is nothing.
Hugs, Marcia
All I know is that SOMETIMES Pepto Bismol has turned peoples tongue black why I dont know..In addition a bacterial or yeast infection in your mouth can cause that. I knew someone that had that and it was a yeast infection.
You need to go have it checked out tomorrow...
I took medication probably 30 years ago that made my tongue black but I cant remember what it was....Sorry.
FEEL BETTER!
