I would prevent about to the actual dental office although on arizona. Too much possibility regarding illness as well as internal bleeding will be harder to stop. I had many do the job accomplished just before We started.

Don't know what type dental work you are planning to have done but I just went for my regular check-up cleaning and x-rays.  No problem with that.

My platelets and WBC are so low, that my doctor suggested that I cancel my cleaning until treatment is over. If your platelets and WBC are healthy, I think it is a good idea to go.

They say to get any big dental work done before tx.  But mouth problems are a frequent problem during tx.  Biotene toothpaste and mouthwash (available at Walmart, and many drug stores) is made for folks with dry mouth problems and isnt as harsh as Listerine and those alcohol based mouthwashes.  I got a cleaning done during tx and no problem.  But I have noticed that if I cut myself or get minor sores they take much longer to heal than off tx.  Bodie wrote in that she had a terrible time with her teeth while on tx.  Maybe she will answer this post.

Make sure you tell the dentist of your being HCV positive and if you are on treatment, they will appreciate it

I had two teeth pulled on tx and it was hell. I had them done in the last of October and I am just now getting to where I can touch around where they were pulled and not get a shooting pain. It takes a long time to heal. A very long time. But the teeth will go if they are close to bad, they will go. I had bad teeth before I started tx and I took a shot of Neupogen and it was like lighting a fire in my teeth. Take care and best of luck!

I would avoid going to the dentist while on tx. Too much risk of infection and bleeding will be harder to stop. I had all work done before I started.

Holy **** Batman. Clean your teeth man! The LAST thing you need is green teeth on top of HCV and the meds. To not do so is to invite the bacteria to build up and ask for infection.
Think about it.....your gums probably bleed a little even when you just brush them babies. The dentist cleaning isn't gonna hurt you....unless you are already prone to problems due to that stuff already and you would already know that.
I had my teeth cleaned several times and had no problems with the cleaning part.
I did lose several teeth during tx but that was not realted to the cleaning stuff but was something that started before I went on tx. Tx just aggrevated that problem.
Clean them perley whites man.....Unless you look good in green teeth

No, to the contrary you should maintain dental health. But, should your WBCs get low you may want to ask your doctor about antibiotics prior to your appointment because you may be prone to infection. Mike
