Hi Lou,
My husband is GT 1b. He did treat from March of 08 thru Feb. 09. He responded to the treatment but his 4 week post treatment lab showed that he had relapsed. Right now we are looking at other options but first he needs to have a liver biopsy...that being said, I don't think a dr. can determine whether or not you actually have cirrhosis without a biopsy, I could be wrong though. At first my husband was ademant about treating again and he has finally calmed down and decided to see what the biopsy says about his liver. There are some new and seemingly promising drugs coming out in a year or two, so if his liver isn't screaming, then he just may wait. I did see your original post and NYGirl did respond and she said that she was both 1a and 1b and cleared both with treatment...I think she treated for 72 weeks. I am new to this forum but I have received a lot of wonderful advice and info here. Just keep reading around and the only advice I can and will offer is to get yourself to a great HEPATOLOGIST and ask a lot of questions.
Best of luck to you :)
Go back and read the answers to your other posts. There are lots of 1b's treating (and treated) successfully. Don't believe everything you read in the press.
You should switch to a hepatologist (GI specialized in the liver). Ultrasounds and ct's can show fat on liver, cysts, tumors and size. cannot show cirrhosis. He may be getting a hint from some of your bloodwork, but a normal sized liver that feels fine by palpation does not indicate the lack of cirrhosis. The biopsy is the major test that can do that. Good luck with the next step.
