dosage reply for tri and open posts

Thanks I couldn't reply as thread was full
the box says peginterferon alpha 2b 0.5 ml 120 backwards "y"g
it is from Schering corp. it is the redipen the pink one.

I know that no one would ever on purpose but with the riba since they are just pills if someone accidently took 1 extra a day if the peg was a lower dose would that cause a problem or help?
regardless I am suppose to take 5 a day 3 am and 2 pm. I guess you would run out to soon and figure out you made a mistake though.

in using your math with weight, weight * 6.25 puts me at 1468.75 if the max dose is 1200 and this is weight based why would there be a max dose?

I guess if this stuff makes you sick to your stomach maybe I will be able to lose weight, just looking for addl benefits to tx.
thanks again for all your help
Dottie

ok trihepguy and scott.
you knew who you were. Thank you again for all the info it has really helped to educate all of us. my insurance company should pay you guys too. I'll check into it lol
seriously though,
I will see if he will at least give me a shot (no pun intended) at starting at higher dose. I think that the whole platelet thing has him concerned though. So that is when I will discuss the vioxx with him. I am also calling the cardio doc to see if he thinks if the vioxx is ok with the other heart meds I take for rapid heart beat.
I bow to your wisdom oh mighty ones. : 0 )
have a great week

You are going to be a great mom to that kitten. I can't wait to hear your stories after you get him.

I like you have a 21year old son (he will be 22 on the 20th of this month) He is in the Navy and leaving for tour duty on June 11th, my daughter in law just told me that he could be gone from 6 weeks to 6 months. He for got to mention the 6 months part to me. He and I are very close and I, like yourself am very proud of him. We did good as mothers. When I read your post that you had just apoligized to him for bugging him when he was young I just had to laugh. I had just had the same conversation with my son only a week ago and he said the same words to me "that's what makes you such a good mom" Boy, I tell you what, that had me choked up for days not to mention walking around like a peacock showing off my feathers. What a feeling.

I wish I could have one of those kittens, but I don't think that the dogs would go for that to much, and my husbands dog is like a king around here.He treats his "Buddy" like he was a first born grandchild. spoiled !!!

Best of wishes to you, your son, and the new "baby" by the way when do you get to get him?

LVD: Hi there, glad to see you posting again, I love your kitten stories and was wondering how you were doing? I run a German Shepherd Rescue Group and I have all kinds of adoption forms and questions to potential adopters are endless. I don't think you're going to have any problems with Chevy adopting from you; but your questions are pertinent and fair and I bet Chevy won't mind a bit answering any you may have. Best of luck with the babies:)
Derail: Hi, I'm sorry you're having a rough morning, hope it gets better for you. I enjoy reading your posts.
Goddess: I am not in the same boat as you but nice to meet you. Good luck with those sx....

Tomorrow I'll have additional blood tests. I hope that my LFT values stay correct & comparable to those during my Tx period.
In addition, I'll have my HCV-PCR test in another 5 mths.
This should be the final SEAL of APPROVAL for my HEPATOLOGIST & me. I'm full of hope....& intend to BURY this dragon forever.

So far so GOOD & I'm staying OPTIMISTIC.................

hi everyone... i sure do miss you all!!! so....much...i miss knowing how you all are...i wonder who's cleared lately...and who needs encouragement...and your stories...how you all are? are you staying sx free or at least "do able"? i wonder how some of our fragil ones are right now....i'm praying for you all...love ya, bunches...

and here's the rest of the story...not much with me has changed except my "whole life"....

the kitty's need me so...much...."8 hours a day"....no i'm not kidding....they are just 24 days old and beginning to see pretty good now and walk very funny...and they are just starting to play...it is so cute...they are only 8-10 oz. that's like the weight of a small potato...they can sit on my one hand...

i put a little cat nip on my finger recently and little honeypumkin hissed at it...i cracked up!!! they all looked very confussed by it's presence...they are just beginning to poke around at the toys in the box...and swipe at each other walking by...a little restleing and lots of cat naps...

unfortunatly, they still need help in the potty dept.... Oh Lord, save me...from this task!!!! it's worse than tx sx...supposedly, they will soon catch on to the way it's done...and the litter box...this is my prayer request...catch on babies...going potty isn't that difficult is it? do you really need my help?

the bottle feeding is precious...but, the time commitment not for the faint at heart...

chevy, little honey pumpkin is getting so cute!!!! his sweet little personality is becoming so apparant...he has the cutest face...his very cute eyes always look a bit "worried"....or curious...but, timid...a purr factory...sweet,sweet face...cocks his head at me...are you my mommy? just a beautiful kitten...you will fall in love...

chevy...you are a lucky girl...

i want so bad to get you those pictures...by the time i'm done feeding them and cleaning them up...i'm too exhausted to think about taking pictures...and i'm a photographer! i think that's the problem...i'm imagining these postcard type photos...perhaps it will have to be a quick snapshot...heee heee...i'll do something...i do want you to be able to have pictures of him at this precious age...

would you mind terribly if i asked you a couple questions, just to make me feel better?....

here goes.....will you keep him as an indoor kitty? i had a kitten get ran over once...much loved...and vowed kitties belonged indoors...

they are "domestic kitties" and so fragil in the hands of the big outdoor world...sometimes i take my kitties out on a leash and let them lead me arround the yard...this seems safe to me...

but, it's your little one...so,i'm just curious ?????

actually indoor kitties are very content to stay in...but, once they start going out...they are hooked...and forever begging at the door...

the other question is silly cause of course you will take him to the vet regularly for his best health? shots and stuff...

i'm sorry about the questions...i'm all emotional over these sweet kitties...

it will be so hard to give them away...

chev,i'm so glad i at least know honeypumpkin will have you as his mommy...what a relief...and perhaps i can ask you about him from time to time...

but, until other "high quality mommies" show up, i will be saying the others are mine...i really want them anyway...but, have 5 already...so sad....what to do? what to do?......

love you all,i'll keep reading and praying the "prayer requests" and skimming the posts and keep in touch best i can...in a few weeks the hardest part with the kittens should be ending...then i'll be back with ya more...got to get my heptimax and endoscopy... comming up soon...pray for me...pray for great news.... love ya all, sandi

Hi Guys,
There's a different Tx dosage for Gynotype 1 vs 2/3, as the Tx time schedule varies as well, that's 48 wks vs 24 wks, respectively.
I too have completed Combo therapy ~2 mths ago. I had HCV-gynotype 2 & treated for 24 wks with:

PEG: 120 mcg/wk reduced to 100 mcg/wk after 12 wks.
Riba: 800mg/daily for 24 wks.
As far as I know, that's in accordance to the Tx PROTOCOL for this disease.

In addition, my physical characterics are:

Weight prior Tx: 64 kg.
Weight after Tx: 56 kg.
Height: 5'7"
Age: 58
Sex: Male

I hope this data is of value.....
Good luck....

TnHeyGuy, thanks for the comment on the trazadone. I think I'm going to try it tonight instead of the ambien. I want to get off of it and the docs seem to think the trazadone is a better choice because the ambien, in the long run, may cause some wierd sx. When I first took ambien it worked great and didn't cause any hangover, but now I'm feeling very groggy in the moring and sometimes tire all day until evening.

Chevy, I was type 2a and did 800 of the riba. I'm pretty sure that is standard for type 2s. I was clear at weeks 12 and 24. My 6 month test won't be until early October.

Hello there and nice to meet you! I have AIH and am positive for anticardiolipin antibodies which means I am at a higher risk for thrombosis like symptoms. The combination of the two really has me feeling the symptoms of fibromyalgia. I am very weak right now and have extreme joint and muscle pains, along with headaches and the occasional mygraine (had one 2 weeks ago). Along with upper right quadrant pain and a persitent low grade fever. Also, my back has been absolutely KILLING me, very inflamed (kidneys). I sympothize with anyone who feels as lousy as that! I am just trying to comment on anyone's post that I may be of some help to, to get to know you guys better. Anyone in the same boat as me?

sorry for going off topic but the body ache is horrible this early am and i cant seem to find who it was who mentioned using the opposite hand to learn improved dexterity and making the old grey cells wake up . there is a book first published in 1979 called "drawing from the right side of the brain" written by Betty Edwards. Although aimed at teachlng people to draw , there are several pertinent points raised and if my memory hasn't had another brain fart there has been studies on teaching brain injured people to learn the skills they have lost. In the bibliography, there are several references listed about this concept that date back to the 1920s.This is one book I never followed up on the references and now i guess i have a new task at hand. The book itself is a fairly easy read and learn exercises. It has helped me in my drawing endeavours, but as yet I'm no Picasso. Dont know if still in print but the ISBN 0 -87477-513-2 may rpove helpful; as well publisher is
Penguin Putnam INC.
this concept may be another aid for the brainfog........ regards to all..Daryl

Dr. put me on the same redipen that you take, and only 800mg of ribivirin.. I weigh 174lbs, starting, and lost 10lbs, now back up to 169.. Isn't the peg weight based. I am curious as to how much you weigh?? Also, with pegysus isn't the dose 180? Why are the sx better if dosing is higher? I am sure that my doc will answer some of these, but I'm loading my ammo.

Neupogen (Filgrastim) is a human granulocyte colony stimulating factor - manufacutred by the pharmaceutical company Amgen. It is approved for use in patients undergoing chemotherapy or radiation treatments - to stimulate white cell production. It is not FDA approved for use in Hep C patients, so it is considered an 'off-label' use when doctors prescribed for us.

In Hep C patients, quite often one of the side-effects of the interferon is suppression of white cell production (including neutrophils). The patients' own bone marrow will eventually create new blood cells, but this is a slow process. Neupogen can speed up the process of white blood cell creation, reducing the time that the patient is vulnerable to infection.

I've been taking 100 mg. as a sleep-aid just before bedtime each night since about week 5 of tx (I do shot #18 tomorrow). It took a couple of weeks for it to help my sleep pattern improve - but it has. Not perfect - but very much livable and tolerable. And I've had very little 'morning hangover' as a consequence.

Yes, please tell me about your experiences with fibromyalgia! My email is ***@****. My doc also prescribed trazadone, but I've been afraid it would make my mornings even worse. Does it make you drowzy? I have a he** of a time getting up and moving in the morning. Some days ache bad in my neck, back, elbows, hips, knees and other days it's much more tolerable. Do you take other meds? What's your experience been getting it dx? I've been going from doc to doc for years and have had gallbladder surgery, depression med, HCV dx/tx, elec. conduction for spinal accessory nerve damage, upper GI tests/meds for GERD, pancreatitis, left ear deafness, nerve problem in left foot, weight gain, and on and on. I can understand why you feel relief in finally getting a dx. Like I've said, I don't want to talk myself into anything, but I'm sick of being sick with no explanation of what (let alone why). caruu

gonagetbetr - thanks for the info. It means your doc has rx'ed Peg-Intron for you - at 80% of the full-dose amount. If he has you taking 5 riba pills/day, then he has you on 1,000 mg. total.

For you to be on a full dose amount of interferon would be the Schering Redipen amount of 150. A full-dose amount of riba for you would be 1,200 mg.

The reason that there is a maximum dose on the riba is that at higher levels there are more sx's and stronger sx's (e.g. - anemia). Though you will occasionally see amounts of 1,400 mg. rx'ed - in practice the highest amount rx'ed is 1,200 mg.

You need to have your doc explain why he has you starting on lower doses of each medication - since this will lower your chances at SVR.

Also, be sure to ask if he will intervene with Neupogen and Procrit (should it become necessary) to be pro-active in maintaining your dosage levels throughout tx.

chevygal55 - glad to hear you are out in the garden. The wife and I got out before the heat of the day today to fertilize and mulch our blueberries. And I noticed that the first raspberries are getting close to picking. While I sit here typing now, I have a heaping load of hardwood mulch sitting in the back of my pickup that's begging to get shoveled out. After that we get to pick our first pepper ('Gypsy' - a banana-type) this year, along with some peas and lettuce to add to tonight's dinner. Hope you and the garden are doing well.
