elevated gamma gt

I have just had a blood screen.I am 58 years old ,a nondrinker, weigh 192 lbs. six feet two inches tall and am in good health.About twenty five years ago,when I went to give blood, I was told I could have hepatitis. my gamma-gt level is 204. how concerned should I be ?

Gammaglutamyltransferase (GGT)
Located primarily in hepatocytes and to a lesser extent in a number of other organs Highly sensitive to hepatocyte(liver & other organs) damage and cholestasis(pregnant woman only).

Elevated in chronic alcohol consumption and binge drinking.
Also elevated by extensive reparative processes, drugs (phenytoin and phenobarbital), obesity.

Not elevated by bone disease, pregnancy, or childhood and adolescence.

Used as a confirmatory test to indicate a hepatic origin for ALP elevation (GGT can be elevated in co-existing conditions, so interpret its results carefully and with consideration of the whole clinical picture) My Doctor doesn

I forgot.......my GGT was 98 at it's highest, but I was still drinking alcohol. I'm now down to 51. Normal GGT is between 0-65. In my opinion, yours is abnormally high.
