the only thing that worked for me was a hot water bottle or a heat pad. - and they work well at relief
ESLD is a rather ambiguous term as it can refer to someone with medically controlled decompensation or someone in an encephalopathic coma. The term ESLD is not used uniformly among the medical community and is not based on any agreed upon standards. The term generally is applied when the liver can no longer compensate and fails to perform all of the necessary functions efficiently. This is usually accompanied by visual signs such as ascites, edema, palmar erythema, enlarged veins, asterixis, encephalopathy, etc, etc.
I would not act on any advice that is based upon your limited description of your husband's problem with cramping. The cause of the cramping may have an easy remedy, or it may be multifactorial and require more intimate knowledge of the situation. In ESLD it is best to run everything by a medical professional first.
If your husband takes diuretics it may be that the dosage needs to be adjusted. Of course, do not take any action of this kind on your own. Make sure a qualified medical professional approves of any dietary changes. Best of luck.

Opiates dehydrate the body.
I wish their was a miracle pill I could tell you about but unfortunately I don't have one.
I have always had leg cramps in the calves of my legs. When the bad cramps come I have found that a heating pad or very hot bath water can help relieve the cramp for me. I know it's not the same thing but I thought maybe it would help him a little.
There are times where I have literally had to just pull my pants off and jump into the tub and run straight hot water onto the calf. But it did ease the pain.
Then after that I put my heating pad on to make sure they don't come back.
Good luck, I wish I had some cure that would prevent them because Lord do I know how much they hurt!
lots and lots and lots of water, fruit, banannas. food with potassium. Ask your dr. if you can take potassium pills once in a while at night when you are having the leg cramps.
