feel like quitting

It has only been a week, but i am already tired to the nonstop itching, the queasiness and headaches. The doctor did prescribed some anti nauseous medication which does help. I don't know if I can last the whole term. I am 2 of 48 shots down.

I took benadrill for the itching. My mother was on cemo and she said the medicine you buy over the counter for motion sickiness worked great. I can't think of the name of it. They gave her all thoes expensive pres.meds but the motion sickness worked the best.  I will be taking shot 5 this week. the headaches are alot better. Thank godness I had no nausea. The only sx I have is I get tireder than usual.

I agree with Marcia; call you’re doc and see if they’ll send you down for a set of labs. If you can’t wait, ER can run a CBC while you wait, and will intervene if necessary. You’re pretty early to be severely anemic, but maybe if you’re very sensitive. If you do go to ER, make sure to bring your interferon and ribavirin with you, along with a list of any other meds you normally take.

Be sure to communicate with your doctor… fax them if you can’t get through; they can’t help you if they don’t know what’s going on.

Practically no one dies from these drugs, but they can sure make a person miserable. Do you live with someone that can keep an eye on you, and take you to the doc, etc? Keep talking with us here at the forum too, and we’ll help as much as we can.

Rest, sleep and keep up with fluids; especially if it’s hot out. I see you live in NC, so it’s most likely hot and humid there… drink lots of fluids, and take good care—

Why don't you call you doctor tomorrow. It sounds like you are getting anemic. Maybe you should have some blood tests done.

Hope you'll feel better.

Please dont give up...You started try to finish. We all know how difficult tx can be. Hopefully sx will ease up.
I made it thru 55 weeks it was so hard for me..but I accomplished what I set out to do. Finish tx.

We all support you, take one day , or one hour , at a time and keep thinking pleasant thoughts. I know easier said than done but you can do it!

The sun is definitely bad. I was at the beach last week and I used 70 sunblock, and didn't stay out for more than say an hour, and I broke out in red, itchy bumps. I had apparently missed a couple spots with the sunscreen. Even where I didn't miss, I got some color pretty fast. I'm inside today because it's in the high 90s here, and I know better. I've been a vampire this summer!

the anthrax and not taking too many (daily HOT) showers and cetaphil lotion or eucerin, or aveeno lotions all helped, if you stay on it it will get better, my rash is under control, and i have to take care of it daily. try to stay out of the sun, that I think is what set me off. take cool showers if you can. hang in there, it is all worth it when you hear the good news!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Unprocessed organic virgin coconut oil soothes the area immediately and goes to work on healing eczema, dermatitis or just about any skin condition. The eczema creams on the market today can be used for both skin hydration and to reduce inflammation but coconut oil is a cheap reliable home remedy. A severe attack of eczema is usually accompanied by a slight constitutional disturbance, but general health seldom suffers appreciably, unless, as occasionally, the itching is so bad that it makes sleep impossible.

Contact dermatitis offenders include jewelry, perfumes, chemicals in any cosmetics, shellac in mascara, lipstick, nickel, lotions, soaps, fabric softener sheets, pesticides from contact around the mouth, latex gloves, tomatoes, etc.

Eczema is actually dermatitis that is in advanced, more serious stages. Also you can expose the affected area to direct sunlight for 20 minutes or so each day and get your daily dose of vitamin D that way too.

Organic virgin coconut oil cures many other skin conditions and skin disorders too, besides making the skin soft and smooth. Patients with eczema have skin that is very sensitive to many substances such as soap, wool, detergents, make-up, cosmetics, mascara, lipstick, nail polish, shampoos, etc. A school-age child who has poor skin control usually feels very isolated from his or her peers and can develop low self-esteem.

Your feelings of quitting are normal, as all of us have experienced those thoughts.  Getting your 4th week PCR will motivate you to keep on when you see a huge drop in you viral load, or better yet your UND.

There are products you can take for the side effects.  Tylenol helps with the headaches, fevers, and muscle cramps.  Don't take anymore than your doctor recommends.

For the itching you can try some of the anti itch lotions.  Gold Bond or Aveeno lotions do provide relief.  Aveeno Oatmeal bath packets help a lot also.  If the lotions don't help you can take Atarax but its prescription only.  Its helps with the itching and sleeping.  The lotions give temporary relief, but Atarax helps for 8-10 hours.  No itching.

Oh no, you can not give up!!  I know the itchiness just drives you nuts (I used to call it an attack of the red ants!) but keep drinking water and moisturizing with a non irritant cream, and also antihistamines are great!  All the best, keep on going.  Believe it or not 48 weeks will pass quite quickly....

I think you mean Atarax for the itching. It is a prescription antihistamine. Will help with sleeping, too. Not that Ativan wouldn't help slamprecht1207 feel better and help with sleeping, too, but I don't think it will help with itching. I use a topical prescription for the itching myself. One of those corticosteroids. It does help a lot. Benadryl might help with the itching as a non-prescription route.

Sorry to hear your having such a hard time already; I’m surprised you are dealing with itching so soon too.

There are several different types of ant emetics that the doc can Rx for nausea; if one doesn’t work, ask for another. Also try ginger; ginger root tea, a little candied ginger, etc. I’m not personally a big fan of natural cures when Rx strength meds are available, but ginger does seem to help, and is very unlikely to hurt you. I have a friend right now with very aggressive recurrent colon cancer, and is on his second round of chemo. He feels ginger has really helped him persevere through it.

Hang in there, and make sure the doc knows that you’re struggling… he might be able to help with more aggressive meds to assist.

Best to you—

Bill
