harvoni protocol

Does anyone have insight as to what the protocol for Harvoni will be in terms of frequency of GI/Hepatologist visits suggested, and the kind of and amount of labwork suggested over the 12 or 24 week period?

Also I have seen that a few people have already been approved, are others getting approved yet? Has anyone been turned away or asked to wait for any period of time?

Thanks

Do you truly mean 24 months?  Or should that read '24 weeks'?

started my 24 week regimen of Harvoni today. Did Incivic and the Solari triple whammy as well. Cleared, but returned in both cases.

However, many side effects I'd experienced the past 8 years have gone since I stopped the triple treatment in April. No edema in legs, which was a daily issue. No more cellulitis. I got that every 6 months and it has been 18 since I had it last. No easy bleeding or patches on my forearms. So my immune system juiced up nicely, although the virus made a comeback.

So we shall see. Today was my 59th birthday. Nice gift of another chance of a normal life, thanks to Gilead!

Saw my liver transplant doctor yesterday at UCLA Medical Center. Here is the protocol. First, to get on the new drug, the doctor has to present the insurance company (most likely Medicare) a viral load to show you actually have the virus.

Second, as in my case, I failed 5 treatments, therefore my treatment plan will be 24 months. It is costly and he said it is currently not available through Walgreens or CVS or the like, but through specialty pharmacies.

Stay tuned for my update once I start. By the way, I've had a liver transplant last year and still fighting the Hep C virus. However, since only 10 months have passed since transplant, the doctor feels that not much damage has been done to the new liver so far. He also mentioned the only known side effect of the newest Solvadi drug is nausea. I can live with that, as there are medicines to counteract that.

I have tried 4 times to respond, but something keeps jumping off the site - at least you got the greeting from the next to last one.

I will try again when I am somewhere else in case the problem is the wi-fi
