ive had hepatitus c for about 15 years with no treatment, but now live in  sonora mexico..Can anyone tell me how i can receive help for treatment?

Are you a US citizen?
Do you have US or Mexican health insurance?

I would recommend if you only have been infected 15 years ago, have a liver biopsy to stage your liver disease and if you have F1 or F2 liver disease you can wait for newer treatments that will be coming to market in the US in the next 2-3 years (What genotype are you? Genotype 1?). The new treatments will have few side effects compared to current treatments and the treatment duration will only be 12 weeks instead of the current 24 or 48.

I would advise you to travel to Arizona and have the biopsy done. I am not familiar with the Mexican health system and would only consider a hospital in Mexico City that has a liver clinic or transplant center if you have it done in Mexico.

If you don't have US health insurance you will need to pay the cost yourself. The cost of a liver biopsy can range from $1,500.00 to. $2,000.00.

* Find out how extensive your liver disease is by having a liver biopsy.
* If little damage, wait and treat with treatments that will be available in the next 2-3 years when the drugs will be approved my FDA and available in the U.S. (I have no idea when the treatments will be available in Mexico).
