Hi, I am new to the board. This is my first post.  Please forgive me if I say the wrong thing here.  I am so sorry you are so sick.  I am even more sorry your wife is afraid of you.  This does not make for a good situation.

Are you able to drink water?  Lots of water.  Are you taking Milk thistle?  This is a very good herb for liver function. The best I have found to take is name brand,"Natures Resourse," standardized, time released 280 mgs and I take it 4 times a day.   My liver doctor has me take it.  Tomatoes are detoxing.  Always eat raw vegetables.  Stay away from cooked foods.  This could help improve your condition.  You don't have to be a vegetarian, more fish in your diet would be better for you, not breaded.  Are you taking a Multivitamin? "Natures Way" has a good one for diabetic's, Iron free.  Weight is a big problem with HCV. Losing weight is very important. Exercise is important. Circulation.  Try staying away from breads and simple carbs.  They turn to sugar in the body too fast and then fat.  Not good for anybody.

I was diagnosed in 2000, I think.   I'd have to check.  I have not yet taken a conventional treatment.  I am taking a wholistic approch at this time.  My liver doctor is not thrilled with this but he is pleased with my results so far.  We both know that what I am doing does not "cure" me of HCV only allows me to live in harmony, as I put it, with the virus.  I am healthy with no side effects.  Which pleases me.  I am genotype 3a, I believe you said you are 3b.

I will pray for you.  I hope that this post finds you feeling better.  I would like to know why they took you off the liver transplant list. But I don't think that really matters as much as getting you back on it! ! !  I pray that you can turn this around with some effort.  I know God is willing if you are! !

Sincerely, Miss Eris

I don't know what to tell you and I'm sorry that I don't. I was transplanted in 2000 but I never had elevated amonia level or encephalopathy except for one time when I had a major esophageal bleed. That time I did go a little crazy - I got in the elevator around 2 am while in the hospital naked pulling along my IV bag - but after that I settled right down. I suspect that it was partially due to meds they gave me but I've never been sure. I am curious why they took you off the transplant list. What have they done about your bleeds? My varices were sclerosed but I think it would have been better had they banded them but it was an emergency with me and so I got what they gave. I had a series of 7 endoscopies with sclerosing injection over a period of 8 weeks to obliterate the varices and it worked. This was in 1995 and I was transplanted 5 years later and then only because they suspected that a lesion they saw on my liver during a routine CT scan  was cancerous - they determined that it wasn't cancer after transplant. The point is that you probably have more time than it feels like you have to get this straightened out. I truly hope that things improve quickly for you. Mike
