From one of your previous posts on another forum.
“Hi,Im Genevieve im a nurse my girlfriend has bipolar and a few other mental illness and recently shes been diagnosed with hepatitis C”

I hate to sound pessimistic but this may also play a roll in getting her treatment. These are very powerful drugs that can wreak havoc on the strongest of minds. I consider myself a very strong person and this treatment was the Darkest time of my life. I felt (mentally) like I was stuck somewhere between Life and Death. Even though I never contemplated suicide, suicidal thoughts are one of the side effects. I don’t know what other mental illnesses she has, but this is something not to be taken lightly.
Wish you both the best, Ricky.

Did you ever post this before I seem to remember another person from Australia wanting to move their gfriend down there in the same exact situation? Who would even think that many Australians knew that many people from the UK it's so far away!!!!!

Anyway, I doubt they would be willing to pay for her until she was a resident or something so I would at least take the time to get things ironed out in the UK where I could get medical treatment and find out exactly how far advanced my liver damage was etc. I mean did she have a biopsy to determine that she was in 'early' stages?

I concur with everything Bill has advised but i would also like to add that the UK has some of the best clinics in the world. The Gum clinics have an excellent reputation. All the best.

Will your national health care pay for her disease management in Australia? Is she a citizen of the UK? The cost of therapy is costly, she'll want to make sure her financial issues are covered.

There isn't generally much urgency in entering therapy; the disease progresses over years and decades, not weeks or months. She probably has plenty of time to deal with this; tell her to consult with her doctor, and unless she's developed significant scarring of her liver she might want to wait for better, more efficacious drugs. With her doctor's blessings of course.

Good luck to you both,

--Bill
