hepatitus, joint paint and swelling

My 75 year old tea totalling mother suddenly has hepatitus ...they need to do more blood work next week to determine which kind.  She has had symptoms of much pain/swelling in ankels, legs, feet, knees, hands and forearms with pain in every joint.  She is aerobically fit and not normally overwgt.  The edema is striking.

The complications are a failed bladder lift surgry 8 months ago for which they are supposed to go in to correct it - she has had 4 urinary tract infections since the surgry which was done "too tight" and has caused incontenence and urgency to urinate - essentially her urethra is a bit kinked.  I am no wondering if the bladder infections has backed up into her kidney's and caused problems there which have resulted in a non-viral hepatitus (we don't know if it is viral).

Also, 2 years ago she lived for 3 months in the Caribbean and ate "all you can eat shirmp" every friday nite.  While there, she got significant swelling around her ankles.  She went to 2 different doctors there and they found nothing.  The ankle swelling never has gone entirely away and 2 weeks ago the swelling began increasing and spreading all over as described above.  I am wondering if these 3 events are related....(diagnosis of hepatitus with swelling and joint pain all over, failed bladder lift surgry with chronic bladder infection and 2 year ago initial ankle swelling with caribbean shrimp).

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

He should discuss limiting his salt intake as well as introducing diuretics with his doctor. Please repost your question by clicking on the ‘post question’ button near the top if the page to get more responses; you’ve tagged onto a post that was started two years ago.

My husband has been diagnosed with Hepatitis C.  He also has gallstones.  His liver has cirrhosis.  He is getting some major swelling in his feet and legs.  We are having issues with doctors because he used to be a drug addict.  Is there antyhing we can do to help the swelling?

It's hard to tell untill the results are in but everyone is able to get this disease. We all hope it is not viral and , I don't think the surgery has much to do with it if the swellin has been present for years.
I had bad swelling you can see it on my pictures, the Docs said it was not related to Hep C nor was the pain.

Sorry your mother is going through this. As you know this is a hepatitis C forum so I don't know how much help you will get here. Once you find out what kind of hepatitis she has then you can go to the appropriate forum for help. If it was my mother I would make sure she was being seen by a hepatologist (liver specialist).
As for seafood and hepatitis that would hepatitis "A". Best of luck
