incivek and transplant patients

I had a liver transplant 6 months ago and am being screened to see if I can tolerate the Incivek protocol.  Anyone else on this train yet?

My transplant was in April 2009. I was able to avoid doing treatment until the Fall of 2011 and am now happily hep C free.
Not sure if it made a difference or not, but I guzzled lots of coffee after my tp in the hopes it would help to protect my liver and delay replication of the nasty virus.

Whatever you do, eat well, exercise and try to keep your spirits up.
This virus can be defeated !!!!

A lot depends on your general health. The early fibrosis may be reversed after your anti-immune suppression drugs will be reduced with time. Hopefully you have advice of good hepatologists who know your overall health and can evaluate the need and urgency of treatment.

New more gentle treatment should be available in a year and even better treatments are coming in 2-3 years. I had a transplant 10 years ago, still have Hep C and need to make a similar decision of doing triple tx now or wait. I did double tx immediately after tx, the results were not very good. Better results were 5 years when I did it again, I became UND, but relapsed. I haven't tried triple tx.

Here is the information on new coming drugs from Gilead. Discuss it with you doctor.

"Four ongoing Phase 3 studies will support Gilead’s initial regulatory filing in mid-2013 for an all-oral therapy with sofosbuvir plus RBV among genotype 2/3 treatment-naïve, treatment-experienced and interferon-intolerant patients, and for sofosbuvir in combination with RBV and peg-IFN among treatment-naïve patients with HCV genotypes 1, 4, 5 and 6.

Topline results from the first Phase 3 study, POSITRON, were announced in November 2012, and results from the remaining three studies (FISSION, FUSION and NEUTRINO) are anticipated in Q1 2013. Results from ION-1, ION-2 and LONESTAR are intended to support a regulatory filing for the fixed-dose combination of sofosbuvir/GS-5885 by mid-2014"

Wishing you the best of luck with your new liver.

already beginning to develop fibrosis. time's too short when there's a chance I'll get weaker instead of stronger.

Good luck with your treatment. I am very happy you were able to get a transplant and are now recovering. That is a huge accomplishment. Congrats!!!

I guess they need to treat you soon rather then wait for newer non-interferon treatments? I know a few people that treated post transplant. It is difficult but you should know early based on your viral load response if it will work.

I wish you all the best in clearing the virus. It will improve your prognosis tremendously if you can cure the virus.

Be well and congrats on your transplant!
