I agree with the the others that Incivek might cover your co-pay. They did mine and I had zero co-pay. It is not income based:

Call and get a virtual co-pay card: 1-855-VERTEX-GPS (1-855-837-8394).

Co-pay Assistance Program
The Vertex GPS co-pay assistance covers up to 20% of the total cost of INCIVEK, providing nearly $10,000 of assistance over the course of treatment. The 20% coverage applies to any type of out-of-pocket cost, including a co-pay, co-insurance, or deductible. There are no income eligibility requirements. This assistance can only be used with INCIVEK.

You can apply for a grant for incivek.  I got one and it's free for me.  It's not income based.  I have to co pay for ribavirin and peginterfon only.  Kaiser should cover it though.  Can't imagine why they wouldn't.

I get my insurance through my wife who is a civil servant and not sure what type of plan it is...

I would think that approving a drug that could cure your Hep C would qualify as a "medical necessity" Important costs to know are: brand and generic prescriptions, labs and imaging costs, and maximum yearly out-of-pocket costs.

I have an excellent hepa and RN team and if you message me with where you are seen, I can ask them who you should be seeing and anything else that may help.

There are MANY new treatments on the horizon and depending on your specific conditions, you may want to wait. I am cirrhotic and couldn't (and didn't want to) wait. You need to be seen by a hepatologist to make those decisions and the best thing you can do is educate yourself as much as you can until then and you will be able to ask the right questions and your doctor will know that you are not someone to be messed with!!!

Any questions, feel free to ask me,
Peace Out, Chris

I'm from northern Ca. I called kaiser and ask about the incivek, the agent said that it is not covered unless it is medical necessity per kaiser medical team assessment, but I don't know how much would be the copay if in case it is approved. The agent won't tell me how much. I think I will just go ahead and enroll for kaiser so I can start the treatment next year.. Thank you all folks!

I have Kaiser in Northern California (Sacramento) and I pay $20 for name brand name meds (Incivek, Peg-Intron) and $10 for generic (ribavirin) and got 4 weeks at a time for the triple drugs. I am also on the brand name drugs Promacta (for low platelets - 75-mg - 30 day supply) and Neupogen (for low WBC - 10 week supply).

Kaiser does have many different levels of coverage and I believe mine to be fairly low cost. I have no co-pay for labs which is good as I am on weekly draws

I started the Promacta 1 month before tx and will be on the 75-mg until EOT (end-of-treatment - end of February) at which time I will be slowly weaned off as stopping suddenly can cause platelets to plummet.

Welcome and you are in the right place!

Chris

Currently I have aetna and my estimate copay is 3k plus per 1 month supply for incivek since it's covered 50%. I am thinking to switch to kaiser next yr. But I have no idea if it's worth to switch insurance.
