legs cramping

It's hot here 115, and humid.  My run in the morning is tough but I have to do it or my life will truly be over.  Is it the meds or not enough water?  If I stretch my feet, they cramp up.  I eat a banana once a day.  Multi vit too.

Back when I used to do a lot of walking and dancing my calf muscles would go into a "charlie horse" (that's what my mother called it) every time I would stretch while in bed. I learned to just get out of bed, stand flat footed and lean forward, forcing the calf muscle to stretch back out. Do it slowly and exhale at the same time, and then just try to relax into the stretch, and don't stretch it any farther. It would only take a minute or two to make the pain go away, and it wasn't sore the next day... but if I didn't do that... it would hurt for hours.

I hope this helps.

I don't think running has anything to do with cramps, but it does have alot to do with sweat.  I'm in AZ and it's now humid.  So maybe electrolytes are needed.  Diane has suggested adding gatorade to my water which I have done.  The cramps come it I stretch, like in bed at night, or if I move a muscle in an awkward position.

I have leg cramps, and foot cramps, and when I tried stirring up amish friendship bread I got cramps in my hands. I don't run, and I'm not on treatments, but I take to diuretics one pottassium sparing and one not. Magnesium helps a little.

I had very bad leg cramps and pain during tx even without running.  Ibuprofen worked for me.

Caffeine may speed up the dehydration of muscles and cause pain.

Good suggestions above about the potassium-rich foods and don't forget magnesium.

The quinine is something NY's doc recommended (if I got that right) and she said it worked.

And maybe try the RICE protocol, rest, etc.when you're a-hurtin

Best of luck today at your twelve week draw.

I had the leg cramps too. I started drinking 1 serving of Gatoraid per day to balance the electrolytes we loose from drinking so much water, It worked for me.

tonic water (no gin)  helps me when my legs cramp up.  It's admirable that you are still running while treating.
