loss of appetite

I want to thank everyone who posts and responds on this forum, really helps when I'm down.  Here's my facts;

50 year old male, had Hep C prob since '73, Genotype 3a, Viral load before treatment 3.6 x 10^6.  Failed init treatment in yr 2000( Rebetron/Ribivirin).  Fibrosis was stage 1 grade ? same year.

Shot 24/48 of Pegasys.  Count at end of wk 4 was 2200, negative at week 11.  Really feeling encouraged by going neg, probably around week 8.

Sx:
Mild: Itch, rash, skin sensitive to touch. Upper right pain, I think gallbladder, maybe.

Moderate: Insomnia, quit to anger, really emotional - this can be embarrassing at times, it' pretty damn bad when Shrek can make you cry!!

Mod to Severe:  Strange mental fatigue, not really depression.
Energy level zero, sleep 14 - 16hr/day. Really getting tough now, guess that why I'm posting.

Well, hope I haven't bored everyone to death with the details!

Anyway one thing I'm curious about is that I have no loss of appetite, in fact I've gained some.  Anyone else gain weight?

Thanks, DH

I don't know what the VL was at 12 weeks. They didn't test for that until 24 wks. Otherwise my CBC tests were fluctuating a bit but normal as per my GI Dr.

My main issues now are mild insomnia. I wake up about 3-4 times a night. Whether mental or not, if I don't try to go pee, I can't go back to sleep. If I pee 1 drop I can go right back to sleep. Weird huh?

Decreased appetite. But still eat. Lost about 12-15 lbs in 6 months. That's ok. about what I wanted. I'm 6'1" and 185lbs.
Right on target. Now I'm trying to firm up my gut. Probably lost the weight because I'm not drinking beer.

Itching is still prevalent but can control with lots if water intake and moisturizing lotion.

Wish you the best with you goals!

Keep checking this site. Everybody here has been very helpful to me, even if I've only been a voyeur up until recently. Ignorence is the worst thing about this disease.

Thanks for your encouragement. I definitely feel better since that dr. appoint.

55's are Clasics and are even better after they have a few miles on them.

Hang in there,

My initial VL was 773K so it was very low compared to most postings here. I'm a 52 yo Male.

Just did week 25/48. Sides sound about right. Had Dr. appt Friday. Viral count = ZERO. Very encouraged. LArgest side problem is lack of wind. I get very winded even walking through a parking lot. I hate those trips to the store and carring bags in multiple trips up steps.

Took care of itching with Cetaphil soap, ACT steroidal .1% cream and Cetaphil moisturizer. Dermatologist said to use light coat of ACT cream twice a day after luke warm or cool shower or bath, then cover with moisturizer. I've only been using the ACT cream once every 3 days or so when I need it. Of course lots of H20.
No more itching.

Probably lost about 14-16 lbs. in 6 months since 1/48. I probably credit that to no beer.  I definitely don't have the appetite I used to but hey at 52. I'm just glad my other appetites have not been effected.

I'm on week 48 of 48(YEAH!!!) Your sides all sound quite familiar to me except gaining weight. I've heard others mention gaining although many lose weight. I only lost 10 lbs early in tx and then stabilized at slightly skinny. Good luck and hang in there.

Are you on an anti-depressant like Zyprexia or Risperadil? These two drugs are notorious for weight gain. Zyprexia can cause diabetes and you are describing some of the symptoms. Have you told your dr? He needs to know. I lost weight and still losing. I am 54 and wear junior clothes again. An aging sex symbol what can I say. I get nauseated and told birdbrain to quit buying 2% milk because it tastes spoiled. I am glad about your numbers. I'm glad you're beating the dragon.
