The cat scan was for my copd, they say my liver sent me to a GI specialist, he said it's nothing and here I am.  Last time I had a copd flair up the doctor asked about the blood work ordered the liver panel and ran the test for hepc.

Hi DJ—

I’ll repost this from one of your previous threads in here for the sake of continuity:

“ANDERS HAKAN NYBERG MDReceived:
6/3/10 6:09 PMHi - the cat scan of the chest 2008 noted subtle nodularity of the liver which may reflect cirrhosis. A sonogram is a non invasive procedure, if it also notes a nodular liver you likely have cirrhosis. A liver biopsy is invasive, it comes with a risk of a complication, it does not have to show cirrhosis even if you have it and the information will not change the management.”

If cirrhosis is indeed present, based on the labs you’ve listed above, it’s likely in early stage right now. As Trinity mentioned your platelets are well within reference range… these are often sequestered in the spleen and therefore reduced in blood in the presence of frank cirrhosis.

You should consult with a qualified liver specialist and see if you can go forward with treatment, or perhaps request a biopsy to verify liver stage and grade. I don’t see anything in the labs you provided that would prevent a biopsy from a hematological standpoint; that at least is encouraging. Sometimes with cirrhosis, the platelets are reduced to the point that biopsy is contraindicated due to clotting issues.

The above is from a complete blood count; if you have results from a comprehensive metabolic panel, there might be relevant info, but the CBC is good news.

Best to you—

Bill
