This thread is very comical and has been a source of enjoyment. I am pretreatment but have noticed a loss of words. My father (may he rest in peace) died with HCV not from it. It is the family joke about Papa and the "thing" you know that "thing". The truth lies in all laughter. Looks like I maybe following in Dad's footsteps.

Thanks for the smiles.

My entire vocabulary consists of one word "thing."  You know, that "thing" over there.  Hand me the "thing."  Have you seen my "thing?"

The brain fog has become my normal, leaving me feeling totally dumb!! Scares me to think it is only gonna get worse with the treatment. I really can't forget much more than I do now, so maybe, the meds will bring me out of it**crosses fingers** never hurts to hope I guess.

Week 71 of 72, and so far this week I have referred to a dragonfly as a dandelion. I'm glad I was alone because it almost turned into an argument. LOL.  Also last nite I could not remember how to measure a 1/4 cup. I feel like I have two brain cells left, One is lost and the other is looking for it. Here's to EOT and SVR, for us all.

The worst of it goes away in less than 2 weeks, at least that has been my experience. I didn't even know I had it until they stopped my tx for 2 weeks. What a rude awakening! I had it bad. It's back again but I'm done on this coming Tuesday, so I think I'll be OK when school starts back up on Sept. 1.

I play on a pool league.  Shot pool for years.  Had a game last night and I couldn't find where the cue ball went too.  Walk around the table 2 times wondering what I was looking for.  Someone ended up helping me.

Yeah I had a slight case of "Sometimers" that's what I'm calling it.....  before tx. Sometimes I remember sometimes I don't . But I'm 10 months post tx and still have it . Seems to be getting better except when I  remember what I did not know I forgot . like forwarding some one a cute email I enjoyed and forgetting they are the one who originally sent it to me . I think the hardest part is not being embarrassed by those who do not know what I've been through ! So tell all your friends in advance . All the best and may you and all of us remember the good things in life that make it worth getting our health back.

OH YEAH - what it feels like is a never ending game of Trivial Pursuit - where the words are right on the tip of your tongue - but you can't quite remember and if you do, you cant form the correct words to deliver them....

I've been pointing a lot lately - my son is getting quite good at anticipating what I'm talking about and not requiring me to speak the words.

Last night, decided to make some frozen broccoli in microwave. Opened freezer - stood there - looking - wondering...

got broccoli - found bowl - poured broccoli into bowl - put broccoli away,

went to microwave, opened door - closed door - set it for ten minutes and went and sat down till I heard the beep - YES, it's ready

open microwave - no broccoli, no bowl - turn around and there it was - right on the counter where I left it....

This is just one episode of many a day.

Did any of you also experience "brain fog" prior to starting tx?

I have not begun tx.  However, it seems that my brain fog has built up gradually over 5 or 6 years--and some folks have reported that their post-tx brain fog lifted after recovering from the side effects of tx.

After just 3 weeks off of a 48 week treatment, it felt like the grey clouds lifted and then i realized just how bad it had really been.

Walking into a room or down the stairs and not knowing why I'm there is how I get most of my exercise!  How will I work those muscles when I don't have to retrace my steps 3 times?

What I really won't miss is dealing with the condescending medical personnel at teaching hospitals.  The lack of language skills (I swear English is my native tongue!) makes it impossible to frame a retort that makes them realize that I am neither a retarded adult or a braindead junkie.  Lots of head replays in the car afterwards, though.

heck, my brain gets exercise from just reading some of the forum posts.  Especially when there is a disagreement and the info gets real technical.

Portann - only one month, that is encouraging.

And being to write out ALL the words I am thinking instead of making bizarre leaps in my written attempts to communicate!

Omg!  That is exactly what I said to myself the other day - I really want to stop using generic words like 'stuff' and 'thingie', getting there slowly.  Next step will remembering why I opened the fridge or went into the study....

Yup, one month post-tx I seem to be able to call a spade a spade, instead of calling it 'that thing'.

Hmmm, what were those meds called that I took for 48 weeks?

Like sunshine, I was also seriously afraid there has been permanent brain damage.  I'm 1 month post and I finding more and more of those marbles each day!

Yes it does! I had it bad, and it was a huge concern. I was afraid there were permanent brain changes, but I'm happy to say, a few months post tx, I have all of my marbles.
