pain after liver biopsy

I had an internal liver biopsy 5 days ago during a reflux surgery.  I have burning pain on the front and back of my liver - at first I thought it was muscle spasms but it got much worse with massage.  I also have what I think might be my diaphragm spasming about 10 times per day where I take a deep short breath, which hurts really badly and then I have rapid short breaths for awhile.   I called my dr's office and they can't see me for a week.  Is this an ER viist?  No temp, it was my normal 96.7 but went down to 94.6 after I took my first shower and had rapid breaths and sweating and felt really hot.  I had a prior reflux surgery 13 years prior and none of this occurred.

Because I filed 27 complaints with Medicare over my Primary Care Group and my Medicare HMO preventing me from receiving ANY medical care once they found out my surgeon damaged me during surgery and that was a YEAR ago.  They went to extremes not to treat me, even to the point of lying and slandering me in letters to Medicare to cover their illegal actions.  In all those Appeals and Grievances I filed, Medicare did NOTHING except lie to me and assign a brand-new agent to the case every single month.  That agent would never call me and then close the case with a lying note that said they contacted me and everything was fine when they never called me even once. Medicare is a well-oiled, corrupt machine of an organization absolutely designed to prevent you from receiving care you need - once they decide your care starts costing them too much.  I'm not the only one that has had this exact same thing happen, I'm just one of the only people who can 100% prove it, since I am a paralegal who also has a medical background and I documented EVERYTHING.  They still did nothing.  Medicare not only cut me off from all medical care, they lied and slandered me to every single one of my treating physicians, who all started treating me differently or stopped treating me entirely without explaning why.  It took me an entire year to figure this all out and I have the slandering letters now as proof, too.  Believe me, I am telling the 100% truth about what a horrible, corrupt medical organization Medicare and all its HMO's are.  My area doesn't offer any PPO's or supplemental plans anyone can afford and because of the new ACA laws, they won't let you out of Medicare, so you are stuck with them for life.  Its a SCAM and there isn't one single goverment agency over them who can help do anything about it and no attorneys will take a Medicare case anymore because they have such high-powered, expensive attorneys on their side.

I can absolutely understand your anger and disgust, but I'm sort of confused over why it is directed at medicare. I'm sure its just because my grasp of the story is incomplete, but from what I have grasped, it seems like the original surgeon and all associated with covering for him should be the primary, if not sole, targets of your anger. I don't really understand what role Medicare has in it unless a doctor has offered to fix what was botched and Medicare refuses to pay for such repair. Have any doctors offered any kind of help to you? I'm just trying to understand why you are focused on Medicare rather than on finding a doctor who will help you. I'm not at Medicare age yet myself, but have helped elderly relatives who are on Medicare and I never have had to deal directly with Medicare in those cases, things were always handled entirely through their doctors' offices.

Thanks, I've all but given up, it takes so much energy to fight HMO's and Medicare and they treat you just despicably.  Medicare is a sad, sad situation for millions like me who worked hard all their lives only to be treated horribly.

I wish I could help, but I can't think of anything I could do. Nevertheless, I wanted to at least tell you how sorry I am about how you've been treated. You really need some kind of local advocate to help you deal with these people. I wonder if the hospital where you were treated has any kind of patient advocate or ombudsman. Threat of medical malpractice lawsuits might make them more sensitive, but it probably has to sound like a real threat - as incoming from someone who is not the patient and who is calm, strong, medically well-informed and reasonably well connected to legal procedures. Your surgeon sounds like a prime target for medical malpractice suit, and if the hospital chooses to protect him then they might be targets as well. I wish I knew more about this kind of stuff though, as I'm just going on what feels like right and wrong. You have my sympathy and I will be sending you lots of good hopes and good energy. I really hope you can find someone who will advocate for you, as it sounds like you may be too sick to do it for yourself.

Small world, thanks for replying.  This is the worst year of my life and I can't even find any medical malpractice attorneys in our area and I can't travel far with intestinal dumping, I'm really weak now and bedridden most of the time.  Medicare is a huge scam, no agency will help you with any problems with a Medicare HMO EXCEPT Medicare and that is a huge conflict of interest and has created a vastly corrupt Medicare system.  I filed 27 complaints about this HMO over the past two years and Medicare has done NOTHING except lie about saying they contacted me when they didn't.  I tried using a HiCap attorney to file my Appeals and all they did was lie to me and delay the Appeal and never filed any of them and never did anything to help me, they only made my situation worse and took all the precious energy I had left to fight this.  I would appreciate any advice you can offer, I truly need help with this, Medicare is a corrupt system and I have been denied all medical care for over six months now, even though I am forced to continue paying for it.  ***@****

Hi Susan. I'm so sorry this happened. I was really bothered by your post. So I looked at your profile to find out your location. Your down the freeway from me!! I'm in Yorba Linda. Where was the procedure done. Because that would be the key to any legal proceedings. Have you called an attorney who specializes in medical malpractice?

Well, this doctor damaged me during reflux surgery and then LIED about it to me for MANY MONTHS afterward.  I finally got a copy of the surgical report from someone else and he refuses to treat me.  He damaged my diaphragm during surgery and God knows what else.  My CT scan with contrast done at the ER shows "unidenified surgical material throughout abdomen". I have had zero medical care ever since and had to switch Medicare HMO's as a result.  I am weak, bedridden, have intestinal dumping still and 3/4th of my hair has fallen out.  BE WARY of any medical procedure and get a witness to watch and tape it, otherwise if they damage you they will lie and your ins. co. will help them cover it up.  That's my learning curve on this one.

Did you have fundoplication surgery for GERD?

"they can't see me for a week."
That is unacceptable. Who told you this. A receptionist? Make it very clear to them that you had surgery and a biopsy and may be having complications. Make them get an answer for you. That is their job.

They have to help you. No doctor can perform surgery and a biopsy and not follow through with post treatment care.

Take this seriously. If your doctor doesn't, that is poor patient care.
You might want to call the hospital that you had the surgery. Tell them what is happening. Tell them you want it checked out. If no one helps go to the ER at the same hospital they will have your records of the procedures.

Good luck!

You should contact your doctor. If it's too late to call your doctor today, then you should call the doctor in his practice who is on call.
