pain and neuropathy

I was dignosed with liver desease last nov .I went to the hospital because my feet nand legs had triped in size as wellas I was totally yellow and looked like I was expecting triplelets.I spent 21 days in the hospital the first week I do not remember much of between the detoxing from alcholol and other severe problems resuting from my drinking and I did not think I was a heavy drinker 3 to5 drinks a day about 8oz. of vodka . well I lived now I stoped drinking but have serious side effects weakness in legs arms and the dreaded neuropathy in my feet! which leaves me in constant pain and I am not diabetic. Right now my stomack is swelling back up I do not know why . hopefully it is nothing all this because of drinking!! My question is is there any other medicine I can take besides gabapentin 600mg 4xa day?I hope I do not need a liver transplant .

yes it is cirrhosis ,my diagnosis is 571.2cirrhosis liver. I went to the neurologist yesterday and was told the nerve damage is permanant and the neuropathy was here to stay and the only med I can take is gabapentin which 2400mg a day to me is alot.I still add a couple 5mg of oxicodone to the mix, hopefully the pain will stop .If not Anybody who might have a better idea or  a solution I will gladly listen.?

It sure sounds like cirrhosis. If this is caused by the alcohol, cessation from drinking should help a lot. If you also have HCV, then additional measures will be needed. In any case, alcohol is lethal to an impaired liver whatever the reason. It sounds like the drinking problem is the issue that is paramount to all else now.

See the DR. Not a GP, but a GI or Hepatologist. - Good luck

Hi, sorry you are feeling bad. When you were in the hospital did they tell you that you have cirrhosis from alcohol? it sure sounds like you still have something going on with your liver, especially if your belly is swelling again. Do yourself a favor and be seen by a "Hepatologist" (liver specialist) as soon as possible. Best of luck
