The only thing I would add is to let the ER doctor(s) know that he has liver disease and Hepatitis C. It will save them time diagnosing the cause of his medical issues.

Vomiting blood can be a life-threatening issue. Get him to the nearest hospital  ASAP. They should be able to stabilize him.

Good luck to both of you!

I agree with Bill.

Get your husband to the emergency room now. Don't wait around to try to talk to his doctor. He needs to go to the ER now.

I wish you the best.

Hopefully your husband is on his way to ER right now; if not, don’t spend any more time on HCV forums, take him there immediately.

Of course no one here can say what he’s experiencing, but if he has cirrhosis, he may be having an esophageal bleed. This occurs as a result of portal hypertension; blood from the liver can no longer flow properly and it seeks collateral flow. It can erupt in the esophagus or the GI tract; sometimes with catastrophic consequences.

If caught in time the varices can be ‘banded’ via band ligation; small rubber-like bands are placed over the varix to tie it off. This is done through and EGD, or endoscope. Please let us know what you discover,

Absolutely agree with mykids, please call your doctor immediately, this sounds very serious.  We are not doctors, and can't advise as to what this might mean.  If you provide some more information (level of liver disease, treating/not treating, etc.) we might be able to help you a bit more, but PLEASE call your doctor, OK?
