I just wanted to add that you might have had HAV long time before HCV. One does not always get very sick from it. It is quite easy to catch, especially in hot countries. So you could have gotten it traveling.
So I seriously doubt you had a super infection. Having HCV and HAV antibodies is NOT a super infection. You are immune to Hep A now.
But please get the Hep B vaccines, if you don't already have... because if you would catch that, it would definitely be a super infection.
btw, roscoe has HCV geno 1
Once you have had HAV you develop antibodies and cannot not catch it again. It's like getting a shot against it. It is a one time infection and that's it. So do NOT worry about having hep A antibodies, it is a good thing. Hepatitis A one gets from eating contaminated food or drinking contaminated water.
The problem is if you have HCV and get a bout of HAV on top of it. That should at all costs be avoided. And that is why all ppl with HCV and HBV are strongly advised to get the vaccine. You do not need it, but you should look into getting a HBV vaccine!
So having had HAV, should not be of any concern to you at this time.
I also had HAV at one time according to my labwork. I never had anything that made me jaundiced or as sick as they said I would have been. Perhaps I passed it off as a case of food poisoning or something, but I never got seriosly sick from it I guess. All the same, the antibodies are there but it's not making my liver any worse than it already is. Maybe you fit into this category too?
Pam
not quite sure i understand. do you have hepatitis C ? from what you write your doctor said you "had" hepatitis A at one time, so you probably carry the antibodies at this time. If you have either Hep A or B along with C then it could be a very deadly combo. This is why the first thing someone should do after finding out they have hep c is get the A & B vaccines.
HAV (Hepatitis A virus) is a self-correcting disease, with a very low morbidity rate.
I’d imagine that if you were indeed infected with both active viruses at the same time, you’d probably be aware of it. Remember that HAV is self-correcting in nature, does not have a chronic phase, and only persists for several months post exposure.
