thryroid tests, freakin tired and starting tx soon, I think. Oh, my.

I've been reading you all for about a month now, ever since I decided to take my head out of the sand and go back for re-treatment for my geno 1 Hep C.  Let's see, female, 54, current vl is 2 mil, 2003 bx was stage 2 grade 3, responded at 12 weeks to Pegasys down to 100,000 vl, then at 24 went back to 800,000.  My less-than-brilliant gastro said time to quit.  I now know increasing doses might have been better choice, but is in the past.  Looking to treat in about a month, going to a big liver clinic at the University, smarter docs, I think.  Am scared sh!tless they will want to do Infergen, not sure I can cope with sx again, but have better shrink and a plan with him to cope with depression, anxiety etc.  But this is not my problem.  Was hoping nygirl or someone with similar experience might be able to help.  Thryoid test came back with low T3 uptake and TSH right at low end of test figures.  Have been more exhausted than I thought was humanly possibly, last summer, could walk half a mile, this summer, can'nt walk around the block.  Permanent sore throat and my eyebrows fell out, worse than from IFN.  I have tried to research my thyroid tests and I AM SO CONFUSED.  So, IF my throid is being lazy and i need to start tx again, can these two therapies be done at the same time?  Whew!  Anybody got any thoughts?  I have two more weeks before my clinic appointment and I gotta tell you, I feel like ****, I mean, how excited can one get about IFN in their future?  Let me know random thoughts, you all be pretty smart here.

I'm so sorry you got a bum piece of advice in the beginning but...it's your time to do this NOW so don't stay depressed be glad at home much YOU know now...and how ready you are to do it!

Why not get an antidepressant NOW and go on it? I went on mine a month BEFORE I started treating...never ever thought I made a better decision in my life.  It's REALLY helped me big time.

Regarding the thyroid...at first my TSH number was .01  This meant I was very HYPERthyroid.  Grave's Disease (hyper thyroid).  Then in the month it took me to get my appt. to have the nuke scan imaging done it went the other way and now I am HYPO. So the Endo doc put me on Synthroid, probably for the rest of my life for Hashimoto's Disease (hypo thyroid)

If you look up both of them you will find that the sides are VERY close to treatment sides (lethargy etc.) so it's difficult for anyone to tell you've got a problem unless your numbers are monitored.

I don't know if I am so tired all the time from the disease, the treatment or the thyroid being dead. But whatever...I sure am.

So that should answer your question - I am on week 36 or 37 of 48 or 72 of treatment right now.  Either way you are going to have to see if your thyroid is damaged enough so that you need to take the meds or not.

Who is tending your thyroid.  I have an Endocrinologist.  I have pre-exsisting thyroid to tx.  After, a month on tx, my reads changed and my endocrin changed my dose.  Fixed it to normal again.  Although, this week I have been extremely tired and no energy.  I go next week for read, then I will find out if it is by cbc's that dropped or the thyroid is off again; if so he will change my dose again. You will notice the difference in energy if it is the thyroid causing this; once the right dosage is found.  Good Luck!  I am 23/48 shot tonight. So, far only one change in meds there and about 1/2 way through tx.

Hope this helps.  Have a great weekend.

Where do I put my popsicle while I type?  Anyway, nygirl, thx for info, I am on anti-dees, small dose, my shrink wants two weeks notice before tx starts and we will up the dose.  So I am good on head meds, just a little scared about what's next in the interferon dance.  And praying the doc who I'm gonna see at the clinic is smart about thyroid too.

BTW, why don't I have an a or b after my geno 1?  I have looked thru my blood work and I don't have any alphabets?  Is there just a plain geno 1?

I have been Hypo thyroid for about 9 years.  I never noticed anything and taking synthroid all it did was make me not gain weight so easy.  As far as energy I notice nothing different.
