vicodin / hydrocodone

Does anyone know If this is ok..I have type 1a stage 2 4th day of tx viral ct 8 million.  I have joint pain, but had it before tx.. My dr, primary phy would not give me hydrocodone with the stuff that tylenol had in it, but did give me vicodine with the stuff advil has as primary pain reliver..did gave up alcohol the day I was told I had HVC, thats been about three 12 weeks ago.  I have read in this forum that the accetametophin (hope I spelled it correctly) is not harmful as long as alcohol is not involved...any ideas?  Bliss

I sure wish I knew.My husbands doc flat refuses to give anything besides darvocet or ultrim for pain and after 10 yrs of being prescibed 4 norco 10mg a day to this is awful.Doc knows husbands taking about 10 -  550 mg tylenols and 8 - 800 mg motrin a day.And that his step dads been giving him  lortabs occasionaly .Docs response is he has probably built up a tolerance from all the years on Norco's for his disk trouble. So what does doc do he says let me give you 90 instead of 40 xanax a month so you can just try to sleep til the end of txt.Which is not till x-mas.Well he wont taake the xanax it makes him a slobbering idiot. So I have been spending about $25 a day to find the meds he works.I even told the doc when I told him all the tylenol & motrin he takes that we didn't go into txt with a liver that was to bad but I bet we came out with a horrible one.But then who knows how bad liver is.Doc said he didn't stage or grade biopsy's.

So,Good luck, sorry for babbling but I do feel better now!

I have a question, my huseband takes 3 loratab 7.5mg a day, he also has hep c.  He is now seeing a different doctor and is afraid they will take him off his med, that he needs to work.  The doctor he was seeing before told him that no more then he is taking it will not hurt him anymore as long as he don't drink with them. Can anyone tell me if 3xday will hurt him???  He needs his pain meds to work.  If he gets took off of them he will not be able to work play with our son.  I know that sounds bad but he has degenerative back disease and wa i  head on collision and broke his wrist which he still has pain from. What does anyone think we should do or say to his doctor to keep him on some kind of good pain meds?

Sorry about your eyelids - that can't be a fun thing to deal with. I'll try the cranberry stuff well diluted with water in hopes that it won't irritate. My doctor said the juice works better than the pill - if I can tolerate it. BTW, if some sugar does happen to make its own way into my mouth, you will NEVER hear about it I promise! I abhor dead poultry, (as far as I'm concerned nobody should kill anything),and I have no wish to be classified as a "dead duck".

I am not saying I had a sugar cane plant sleeping with me for 72 wks. and that sugar stocks went up during that time thanks to me. not saying.

I know I needed it because I gained no weight during tx, that is my story and sticking to it with goey syrup.

Thanks everyone for the advice and comments. If all this is "par for the course" then look for me on the bocce court and my golf clubs at the bottom of the nearest lake (sans car keys, of course!). The Bactrim is working on the kidney pain and I'm off to the health food store to stock up on the sugarless cranberry - (I just know there's a yeast infection waiting out there with my name on it). If the stuff is too bad to drink maybe I'll just bathe in it. It's comforting to know that taking antibiotics doesn't jeopardize the effectiveness of tx -one less thing to lose sleep over!

Hi sweets!
TY for that suggestion. Parsley, hum, I love garlic, good people repelent too! tell me that one works just as well.
I bought the cranberry stuff who claims to have almost 40% juice, not ocean spray stuff, if that takes a lot of will power to drink, I can't imagine the Health Food store stuff. At this point, I will try anything. Two yrs of antibiotics, lol, is everything two yrs with you?
My fear is that all these UTIs are damaging the kidneys and I will end on dialisys in my old age, many, many, MANY yrs from now! email me if you want, cuteusbelleusat yahoo.
be well

Califia is right, Vicoprofen got me on my feet everyday and did not interfere with the SVR, take whatever works well.

carpedi; UTIs, they are a pain in the a...I guess not there, but they certainly hurt like hell. I had them before, during and now post tx. I am tired of them. Had antibiotics thru tx, cipro, macrobid, etc.  Macrobid works directly on the bladder.  Get a urine culture to see who the culprit is. Mine was E coli and shigella or something like that. short of never having sexual intercourse, I don't know what else to do! I tried the cranberry juice and increasing the H2O, but cant seem to keep up the regimen.
I feel for you

After starting tx, I was needed foot surgery and my GI said there was no problem using the hydrocodone for pain relief.  HTH.

That's what you get for going on vacation!  My nurse friend says, yes, the immune systems are compromised when you are on these meds.  It's like they are focused on the hep c and the rest of the immune defense is down.  She told me to be careful around my grandkids because they pick up so many bacterial and viral infections at daycare.

Glad you are back

I used to get UTI and kidney infections all the time, 'cause I lived on Coca Cola and never drank water.  A nurse told me to drink a gallon of cranberry juice each day ... yeah, right.

I now drink at least 64 ozs. of Propel (flavored water) each day and at least 8 ozs. of CRANBERRY JUICE.

Since back on this regimin I haven't had any UTI or kidney problems.

It's worth a try!

Bummer, but entirely par for the course.   Antibiotics are AOK while on treatment, so don't worry.  Hope it clears up quickly.

Speaking of infections and remedies....in the 3 weeks I have been on tx I have had, (besides the expected list of "sides", classic migraines, sinusitis, and finally last night I came down with a UTI/kidney infection. I was finally able to find a doctor on call,  - it WOULD be Saturday night -  who prescibed Bactrin for 5 days. So now I'm wondering, (besides "what's next"?), will taking the antibiotic (which I have always hated taking!) interfere with the Pegasys and Riba? There's not much I can do about it - can't stand the pain of the infection. Has anyone any clues to prevention of infections (other than living in a bubble)? I REALLY would like to get through this - at least as far as the 12 week mark. My first CBC came back with an actual small rise in RBC and Hemo (nurse said she's NEVER had anyone on tx do that!),but the WBC dropped from 10.4 to 4.2 still in ok range, but quite a drop and I expect it's still dropping and my immune system isn't coping. Thanks for any advice anyone can give me.

Don't worry. When it turns black and smells bad it will fall off.

Seriously though...Make sure you don't have a sliver or some such foreign thing under the nail cause they continue to irritate and if  necessary see the doc. frank

some very smart man here said "whatever gets you through tx" and listening to all i agree; people seem to do what works for themselves, what makes them feel comfortable, and its all different.  i always talk to my fam doc too; known him so long its become a friendship also; i trust him and always check everything out with him.  i also run it by everyone here too!

my ques:  i got an infection in my fingernail during vaca - dont know how but are we just open to infection more?? my finger looks like its growing a head and hurts like hell.  just last night i got antibiotic and i've been soaking.  i've been taking care since i noticed it but its running its course.  all i do is complain anymore,,,waaaa....

help!

My understanding is that hydrocodone and codeine are easier on the liver than acetominaphen.  They may cause more nausea than usual while you're on tx, however, or such has been my experience.  Cuteus has posted many times that vicoprophen--a vicodin/ibuprofen combo--really helped her w/ neuralgia during tx.
