I totally agree. Except, if you are low in something.

I was told to dump them all. Drink filtered water and spend my money on organic and clean foods. No kidding. I did the whole milk thistle, antioxidant bit and the hepatologists said do you know what you are taking and I showed them. They said throw them out and spend your money wisely on clean food and organic is not cheap.

You should talk to your doctor about taking any supplements because it depends on how your labs look. For example, I take magnesium because I am low on it but for someone else adding magnesium might be a mistake.

I was told to stay away from Vitamin C cause it makes your body absorb more iron ,so I would be careful with that. Now I know why I had issues with the milk thistle I am allergic to short and tall form of ragweed. Who would think , ty for that info.

One vitamin you should consider avoiding would be iron. Iron overload can be a problem for your liver.

It is always best to ask these kinds of questions to you doctor they know the specifics of how serious is your medical condition and more about things you want to avoid especially if you are on treatment. For example if you are treating with Harvoni you can't take St Johns Wort as it will reduce the effectiveness of the medication.

Good luck

I was told in 1996 that I had Hep C and would die in 6 months if I didn't have a  transplant. Well, I never did and I'm just NOW starting the Harvoni. But, to answer your question, I took a good Vit/Mineral and LOTS of antioxidants (such as Vit. A, Vit C, Vit E) Antioxidants are a group of compounds that help to protect the body from the formation and elimination of free-radicals. Free-radicals are formed from exposure to sunlight and pollution and also as a byproduct of cell metabolism. Antioxidants are intimately involved in the prevention of cellular damage — the common pathway for cancer, aging, and a variety of diseases. The vitamins that are considered antioxidants include vitamin A, vitamin C, vitamin E and beta carotene, but many minerals like selenium, lycopine and zeaxanthin are also antioxidants.
Vit. A is Beta-carotene is a precursor to vitamin A (retinol) and is present in liver, egg yolk, milk, butter, spinach, carrots, squash, broccoli, yams, tomato, cantaloupe, peaches, and grains. Because beta-carotene is converted to vitamin A by the body there is no set requirement.
Vit C  Ascorbic acid is a water soluble vitamin present in citrus fruits and juices, green peppers, cabbage, spinach, broccoli, kale, cantaloupe, kiwi, and strawberries. The RDA is 60 mg per day. Intake above 2000 mg may be associated with adverse side effects in some individuals.
Vit E d-alpha tocopherol. A fat soluble vitamin present in nuts, seeds, vegetable and fish oils, whole grains (esp. wheat germ), fortified cereals, and apricots. Current recommended daily allowance (RDA) is 15 IU per day for men and 12 IU per day for women.
But the BEST is Milk Thistle. I took Milk Thistle 1000mg 2 to 3 a day and I know that is what got my liver to heal as much as it could. Look up Milk Thistle and you will be pleasantly surprised with how much they are finding  Milk Thistle is good for you.Milk thistle is sometimes used as a natural treatment for liver problems. These liver problems include cirrhosis, jaundice, hepatitis, and gallbladder disorders. Usually, milk thistle causes few, if any, serious side effects. Studies show that it’s safe when taken for up to 41 months.

Milk thistle may cause diarrhea. More rarely, it may cause nausea, bloating, gas, and upset stomach. f you have a ragweed allergy, you should also avoid milk thistle. Milk thistle may cause a rash or lead to severe allergic reaction.
Since milk thistle may mimic the effects of estrogen, some women should avoid this herb. This includes women who have fibroid tumors or endometriosis. Additionally, women with breast, uterine, and ovarian cancers should not take milk thistle.
This is how much I know about Milk Thistle. It is VERY GOOD for people who have Hep C. and there is some new news out about Milk Thistle helping stop cancer from replicating.
Like I said before, look it up for yourself. But  I hope this helps and gives you some good ideas.
Happy New Year
