worried about HCV / spitting junkie

a few days ago i was talking with a weird dude who had literally JUST returned from the bathroom where he did some drug. the guy spit a little while he talked, and i felt some hit near my lips. some spit could have gotten in my mouth.

i know this is a blood-to-blood disease, and i also know that i have very few facts to work with here, but that doesnt stop my anxieties from convincing me that 1. he was shooting heroin. 2. he has HCV. and 3. he somehow had blood in his saliva - maybe through a cut, or maybe he had just 'cleaned' his needle with his mouth.

despite my lack of evidence, let's assume its all true. and lets also assume that i had a cut in my mouth. would this be a legimate risk for HCV transmission? should I get tested?

with a screenname like danger22 and a title like "the spitting junky" i feel like in a... james bond movie... with all due respect, danger22, you are more of a danger to yourself than this poor spitting dragon :)

Wow, if I made all of those assumptions about what someone had done and the threat I might be under, HCV wouldn't be my first concern.  Get a clue.

"a weird dude who had literally JUST returned from the bathroom where he did some drug. " How do you know? How do you know he injected it?

"1. he was shooting heroin." How do you know?
"2. he has HCV." Again how do you know?
"3. he somehow had blood in his saliva - maybe through a cut, or maybe he had just 'cleaned' his needle with his mouth."
Who cleans his needles with his mouth??? Who cuts his mouth with a needle. No one!

That is a lot of "ifs". It seems you are being very paranoid.
Yes it is possible that these might be true....But likely? Very, very doubtful.
Yes it is possible that you might get hit by a vehicle crossing the street tomorrow. Likely. No.

If you contracted hepatitis C you could just as well have been infected by hepatitis B or HIV. HIV and hepatitis very commonly appear in intravenous drug users. They don't need blood to be transferred. So if you are scared you should get tested for all viruses after giving the viruses time to be detected through testing.

Another point is...If you are infected (all the worrying is not going to change anything) you can't turn the clock back, so you will have to treat for it anyway.

Good luck.
