Co-pays

I am interested in knowing what are some of the co-pays for treatment.  I have BCBC.  Are the co-pays per monthly supply or per injection?  What is the dollar amount?

I have Aetna, and get mine from the specialty pharmacy and are shipped overnight.  I pay 35 copay per month for the Pegetron/Riba, and finally got them to ship vials of Procrit  month supply for $25 co pay.  I was having to pay $25 for 2 prefilled syringes of Procrit. And having it shipped twice a month,   But finally got that fixed, now that I am 3/4 of the way thru treatment, but I can use the extra money right now.   So it really varies according to plans.  even the same insurance company has different co pays.

Every insurance plan is different.  I have BCBS and pay $200/month for PEG Intron alone.  Labs have a co-pay, which is small.  I've had tons of trouble with the specialty pharmacy that my plan requires I use - they are incompetant boobs and can't seem to tell me the same thing twice.  I expect BC/BS to cut me off my meds soon because I'm on maintenance, and we don't expect any major drop in vial load.

I have BCBS of Florida, Blue Options coverage plan.   My co-pay is $25 to my regular doctor (not a specialist).  The doctor accepted my plan, submitted to BCBS, and then I was billed whatever the ins. company said was allowed.   I have to meet my deductible (which is high) before ins. company pays whatever they allow.     My Riba was $15 per mo./Pegasys was $635 per month (4 vials); all labs were a zero cost to me.  Ins. coverered all that 100%.

I hope that is all it is for you.   I have Aetna and my co-pay was $416.00 per month for the Riba and $436.00 per month for the Interferon.

Make sure you talk to your insurance co and find out before you start.

I have BCBS. If you arrange getting you meds thru the mail as alot of us do - my meds were $70 in total for 24 weeks. I just posted in another thread that they were $75, but realized I made a mistake and they were only $70. Caremark is the pharmacy. So make sure you call your insurance company to arrange it thru the mail if possible. It would have cost me alot of money if I went to the local pharmacy and thats even with using my insurance. I just happened to stumble upon this info when I asked an NP how much would my payments be and she wasn't able to give an answer. The rep from Caremark said alot of people don't know about the mail order and they pay hundreds of dollars and then she has to work on getting them reimbursed. I was never one to take meds so I had no idea what my insurance covered for anything.

Oh btw as long as you choose a doctor that is in your plan the co pay was only $15 dollars. And remember that if you live lets say in NJ and you want to see a doctor in NYC, call your insurance company and ask them if the doctor is in your plan because your book will only show those doctors that are in the state in which you live. I tx with a doc in NYC and also consulted with a doc in Boston and only paid $15 for each visit because both were in my plan.

wish you the best.

Depends - because HepC is a chronic disease, I had to pay $30 a month for the riba (generic), $30 a month for Pegasys, and $30 a month for procrit.  I had B/C & B/S.
