Florida Rockers

There is a band playing in my area doing a benefit - Black Star Whiskey - bills themselves as Florida-based International Recording artists. Tickets are really cheap at $10 online or $12 snailmail - thinking they are doing this at a cut rate at those prices. I am a Lynyrd Skynyrd fan and love my Delta blues....from the band's logo strikes me as good southern rock 'n roll - anyone know anything about this band that cares to comment?   Thanks.

never thought of you as the type to wear gold gliter stretch pants and a shirt unbuttoned to your navel....

And a sock stuffed down the front for good measure. I guess that would be a "tube" sock.

Lynryd Skynyrd they're not.

But then again, Skynyrd's from my neck of the woods, sown here we pretty much think no one compares.

I say go anyway.  They seem to do lots of benefit shows....and ya might have fun.  Maybe bring ear plugs, tho!

Hope you're doing well.

All the best,

Isobella

" I'm of the personal opinion that there was no time like the 70's for the variety, quality and talent in rock and roll and we have not seen that since. "

You got that right. Who can forget Donna Summer moaning her way to esctasy in Love to Love You? Or the Bouy's forelorn loss in Timothy? What bands do we have today with the guts to tackle today's problems of orgasmic bliss and canabalism? Rhetorical question.

I love Lynard Skynard music!  I'm a Florida girl, southern from birth. Born in Tuscaloosa, Ala, but parents moved me to Florida at 2 wks old.  So, needless to say, I love the song, "Sweet Home Alabama"  LOL.  I also like alot of the other southern rockers.  I know that some of you might not like them, but I like Molly Hatchet, too.  Anyway, just wanted to comment.  I grew up listening to things like Skynard, Hatchet, Cheap Trick, Foreigner, Car, Police...., 70's music.

Very interesting...and bizarre...then again, this IS Keith Moon. What a character and what an interesting place for you to be.  One of a kind experience I'm sure - especially for the guy who got brought up to play the drums - wow, eh?

Ricky.....wow.  That was...F A. Helicopters flying and Russian soldiers rocking on with the crowd....the power of rock 'n roll.  I hear the first few bars of Enter Sandman and my radio gets cranked way up.

As for the vent...that was Hector. :)  I had an ex b/f who had an encyclopedic knowledge of music through this era.  I couldn't even come close to coming up with a vent or rant that would do it justice. Me...just throwing in a couple of cents worth.

Yes, Enter Sandman is one of those songs our Grand Children will be Rocking to. I find this video Bone Chilling

Not much of a vent you had there but it was better than nothing. I was thinking about P.M. you to see if you are feeling all right.

Hi Hector, thanks for the interesting comments. :)

I don't know much about Florida and don't care much about where they come from if they can play decent music.  I did see some pictures on their site but of course that's a promotional thing and made to look however THEY want their image to appear so really wanted to hear from someone who's been at their show.  Not a biggie really as it's not a whole lot of money to drop and goes to a good cause being a benefit - just wondered.

As for "old school" LOUD rock 'n roll.....well, I'm of the personal opinion that there was no time like the 70's for the variety, quality and talent in rock and roll and we have not seen that since.  If the kids of today are still influenced by that amazing era of music .. then maybe there IS hope.  My son plays guitar...walked into his room in the house he shares with his Uni buddies and what do I see?  Pink Floyd poster on the wall.  Caught me off guard.  If rock is dead....it's what happened to it when it moved into the 80's and it just kept going further downhill.  Have to say though I tuned out throughout the 80's and I'm sure there was some amazing music....I just happen to think what happened in the 70's was an incredible era in music.  I'm no expert in the slightest - I'm the one who recognizes a tune but can't tell you who is playing it, I just know what I like when I hear it - I just happen to think that if kids today are listening to the incredible rock 'n roll we had in the 70's and taking some influence from that and combining it with where their hearts and minds are at today .... can't be all that bad, seems to me.

There are days....when there is nothing like a good cranking tune on the radio as you're driving up the highway or even on the way into work...to get your juices going.  Give me a good AC/DC tune on those days...mind you...Metallica's Enter Sandman is kicka$$ as well on those days.  So...maybe some good came out of the 80's as well.  My son was also a huge Metallica fan - not a real big surprise though, eh? :)

Thanks for the comment....interesting.  :)  And if the venting felt good...all the better. :)

Trish

Hi!

Here's their website:
http://www.myspace.com/blackstarwhiskey

It looks like they are a young band that formed about 1-2 years ago playing "old school" LOUD Rock n Roll. They are from that the mean streets of Largo, FL. Scary! ha! ha! "International?" .

Band Influences:

STONES ~ SABBATH ~ EARLY AC/DC ~ ZEP ~ VAN HALEN ~ PRIEST ~ MOTHER LOVE BONE ~ DOORS ~ 2 GUITAR HEAVY & LOUD, MARSHALL ARENA ROCK. LIVE HIGH ENERGY ROCK.

My editorial opinion, please disregard...

In other words the music I and maybe you grew up with 35-40 years ago. Before these kids were a twinkle in their parent's eyes.
And people wonder why rock is dead, and the vast majority of kids listen to hip hop and other music? DOH This is 2011, not 1975. I mean how many generations of kids have retreaded Led Zeppelin songs ad per nauseum? Zep always did it better then any of the copy bands. It is like us in the 70's listening to our parent's big band music. Nothing wrong with big band music, but we lived in an entirely different world then our parents who went through WWII.
Okay, I feel better now. Thank for the opportunity to vent...

Take care.
Hectorsf

Looks like there from Largo. A friend of mine lived in Largo until last year. Small world.
Do I win a free trip to Tampa? ha ha

Nope, but I remember seeing Lynyrd Skynyrd the first time they played the West Coast as the opening act for The Who.
The infamous Cow Palace Show where Keith passed out at his drum kit (twice) and they had to use an audience member to finish the show.
