I was just being facetious with the "bonus" word, Magnum

Believe me, I know it's no fun. That's the reason Hector always tells me that - you definitely want to keep your own liver for as long as you can

Though the possibility of transplant is a wonderful last chance endeavor, it is something that none of us would do if we had other choices

And I so admire all the post transplant friends here who are still in the battle to fight Hep C, for themselves and for their donors

Thanks for the updates.
I got an email from him last week, he's one heck of a trooper. A hero for all of us to admire. What a survivor !

You stated...

"Remember that for those who are post-transplant, there's the added bonus of a handful of pills that you have to take for the rest of your life to keep your body from rejecting your new liver"

I'm  a little confused as to why you say its it's a "bonus" to take a handful of pills daily. I handful of "chemicals" for your body? I would say it's :necessity" instead of a "bonus". Believe me, it's no fun...

I am thinking about Hector every day and i am looking forward to hear he's feeling better or at least has less pain and feels somewhat normal again.
He was and still is a very important person in my life.
Best wishes to Hector

I have had some short conversations with Hector in the last few days. He just feels lousy, is tired of being tired and tired of being in pain

Remember that for those who are post-transplant, there's the added bonus of a handful of pills that you have to take for the rest of your life to keep your body from rejecting your new liver

Hoping that after Hector's treatment ends, and he is putting fewer harsh chemicals into his body, his determined and sanguine self will return

I think about him every day.

He has been such an inspiration to me and taught me how to be my own advocate

Be well Hector

I was very happy to hear that he tested negative for cancer.
It is like an early Christmas present plus his Anniversary and Birthday all rolled in to one
So happy for him

Spoke to him yesterday. I thought I posted the fact that he is extremely happy that the cancer test came back negative. He is still cancer free. One more week of treatment and he's done. He seems to be in good spirits but still in pain.

His outlook is positive and hoping the treatment will accomplish a permanent clearing and reverse the pain he's been tortured with. I'm sure he will be posting soon...

Spoke to Hector today. He is very excited that the test results that came back the other day show no cancer. He sounds much better although still in pain. One more week of treatment torture and then it's over. Good news for a good guy...

All:  Thanks for the updates.  We are all concerned and want to know but understand why he isn't posting.  It is good that he has friends who keep in touch with him --- and keep us in the loop.

Hector:  Hang in there we are all praying for you, holding good thoughts that this treatment will be THE one!  So glad you are able to take short walks again and that the nausea is gone!

I know I don't have to tell YOU, of all people, this, but -- keep on keeping on!

Thank you for the question and update.  I had heard from him on the 8th and he was doing better though still struggling.
I am glad to hear her is getting out for walks now, and that his appetite has improved.  That is really good news.
Take care

Just spoke to him. Said he’s still in a lot of pain with 10 days to go on treatment. Gets exhausted after a couple of hours. Goes out, but for short walks. Appetite has picked up and nausea has subsided. Sleep is better because pain has lifted some, but still very present. Stopped Norco a few days ago because he wants to keep his head clear. It was camouflaging what is really going on. I stopped pain pills two months ago myself. Less toxicity for the liver after transplant. Hector feels the same.

Tylenol is what he takes now for pain. He sounds okay and said he will post soon.

I tried again today with no answer. Keep in mind when you fell sh*tty, it's difficult to put on a persona of well being. He's suffering and that's the bottom line. Rest assured that I am as concerned about my friend as anyone and I will post as soon as I speak to him...

Hi did you see these conversations?

Looks like the last comment from Magnum was on Nov 5th

copied below:

".Spoke to Hector this morning. Yesterday, he had a kidney stone removed and came home this morning. As I’ve read, the ususal way to destroy a kidney stone now is with high intensity sound waves, but with his problems, they wouldn’t do that. Beyond belief when he said they had to go through the male organ, the bladder and so on to get to the kidney. He also mentioned he filled half of a urinal with blood after the surgery. Ouch...

However, he is stable now and said he is in less pain than he’s been in the past 6-7 weeks. He hopes it’s not just from the residual effect of the anaesthesia. He’s going to finish treatment in two weeks. He actually sounds in good spirits, but is still cautious. He said the doctors have yet to find out what the problem is with the severe pain throughout his entire body. Let’s hope he’s back soon and out of pain...

Magnum ."

hope that helps
