Oops..I'm a doofus. Wrong thread...doh. FlGuy's posts are quite intact. Apologies to Medhelp.
Okay ... where did FlGuy's posts go in this thread? They were incredibly amusing and funny, haven't read something like that for awhile and there it was, classic FlGuy. Gave me that deep laugh that incredibly intelligent witty humour gives. And I come back for another dose of it and his posts are gone.
Please don't tell me someone complained about that?? Did someone actually consider that abusive?? Someone with a funny take on this subject?
MedHelp? If that was removed as abusive, can you please explain what was abusive about it?
"Dont forget this fact, you are just a bunch of molecules...and atoms...thats it."
At the certainty of being off topic, not providing additional information as to the benefits of ions and digressing into philosophical rambling, I have the following thoughts:
I get your point, but I think it is hubris to think that this (matter) is ALL one is, as if we know, and there there is nothing that exists beyond what we know. I am not championing substitution of superstition for scientific knowledge, but I feel sure that what we accept as the "final facts" now will one day seem as quaint as the once seemingly obvious fact that the world is flat and might be carried on the back of a large tortoise.
The current atomic theory is very useful in explaining and understanding the world in which we live, but I do not think it can be called absolute truth (is there a such thing?) without assuming that we know all there is to know.
I'll throw my lot with Socrates and Clint Eastwood. A man has got to know his own limitations.

What Are Ions?
Ions are nothing more than atoms or molecules that have gained or lost an electron. Those that have lost an electron are called positive ions, while those that have gained an electron are negetive ions. Ions are formed when an electron is detached from a neutral molecule (or atom). The molecule losing an electron becomes a postive ion and the molecule gaining an electron becomes a negative ion.
Dont forget this fact, you are just a bunch of molecules...and atoms...thats it.
A recent study by the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture found that ionizing a room led to 52% less dust in the air, and 95% less bacteria in the air (since many of the pollutants found in the air reside on floating dust particles).
--------------------------------------------------------
I worked in a shop where we used this principle. In fact the air may have been cleaner......in a treating the symptom kind of way.
The same pollutants were still in the shop however. The charged dust particles moved as charged particles do....in this case to the wall and any and all surfaces.
Where the particles might have ordinarily been floating in the air where they could have been vented or settled to the ground where they could be vacuumed they instead stuck to the surfaces of the shop; you could write your name on a wall in the dust.
I presume that the same principle would exist in a home except on a smaller scale.

Infrared energy can also can also be increased by mechanical means (friction). Anyone who has witnessed a small dog with impacted anal glands 'scooching ' across the carpet can attest to the power of "cleansing vibrations"
Negative Ion Facts
Approved by the U.S. FDA (Food & Drug Admin.) as an approved allergy treatment.
In March of 1999, Good Housekeeping Magazine had its engineers test an ionizer by using a smoke test, and found that it cleared out the smoke in a tank.
A recent study by the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture found that ionizing a room led to 52% less dust in the air, and 95% less bacteria in the air (since many of the pollutants found in the air reside on floating dust particles).
The salt rock lamps are supposed to emit negative ions as well.
Or just sit next to a stream of running water splashing against the rocks.... take some deep breathes, think good thoughts, plant white seeds and remember nobody gets out of here alive.
My bad. I thought you were talking about ultra violet, not infrared. I guess I should read before I write.
How does it cause skin cancer?
It does wonders to promote skin cancer. Excellent recommendation for those you want to have a short life.
The Amethyst Bio-Mat :
This medically FDA approved device uses state of the art light technology (FAR Infrared waves) to reverse degenerative disease cycles and to speed cellular renewal. It allows post traumatic and surgical healing processes to occur 57% faster. This light wave reduces swelling, increases blood flow and has been shown to destroy cancer and virus cells without harming surrounding healthy cells.
As you lay on the Bio-Mat the Far Infrared waves penetrate several inches into the body, stimulating healing and regeneration of the cells, tissues and muscles.
The Amethyst crystals provide a natural healing and calming energy for detoxification of the cells. This crystal has been used to clear energy blockages and to align the Chakras. It is a balancing, purifying, stabilizing and transforming energy. Amethyst has the power to heal at all levels of the Body, Mind and Spirit.
Another added benefit of the Bio-Mat are the Negative Ions that are emitted. We get the heaviest concentrations of these at the beach and in the Rain Forest. It is the energy that you get from pounding waves or waterfalls. Negative Ions have a cleansing vibration. Research shows that when the amount of Negative Ions in the blood is increased, the function of a cell is activated. It speeds up the cell function, and as a result, nutrition is fully absorbed by the cell and waste material is eliminated. Metabolism is increased and the function of the cell is revived.
In addition, as the amount of Negative Ions increase, the gamma globulin in the blood increases, resulting in blood rich in protein and antibodies, thus increasing the function of the Immune System.
When you lay on the Bio-Mat you are in a Delta and Theta state of rest - a place where the body can heal itself.
