Just found out my twin bro is Hep C positive too! Can this get any worse!

I just found out that my Twin brother who has Cerebral palsy is also positive for Hep C. We are told it is from blood transfusions we had at the time of birth. We were born 3 months early. So we both have been living with this virus for 21 years and never knew. Can you believe my brother had 12  surgerys to help his condition and not one blood test. What are the odd's of getting 2 batches off blood  from two different people both Hep C positive. At this point we think maybe we got it from out mother? We can't have her tested because she died a few years ago. Dose anyone know if their is anything special a Dr. needs to do when handeling a patient who has Cerebral palsy ang Hep C? He is perfectly normal he just can't walk.

I have 2 children who got HCV from me - I didnt know I had it as do many many people - perhaps that was the case with your Mom, or perhaps you got it another way, but at this point it doesnt really matter.  IT'S IMPORTANT TO GET A BIOPSY to see where you are at. My son has CP and he treated and is doing fantastic. The only thing that changed was his seizure meds.  You have youth on your side.  Where do you live?  You can send me a private message if you want to know more about our story and our experience.  You are very close in age to my kids - maybe I can put you in touch.

So sorry about your brother.  When I first started doing research about hep C transmission via blood transfusions, I ready somewhere that 1 in 4 people who received blood or platelet transfusions prior to 1992 were infected with the viruse, and of those 1 in 4, half of them do not know they have it.

UInlike HIV, Hep C is not very likely to pass from mother to child, let alone to two children at the same time, but I guess it's *possible*.  Good luck, I'm sorry to hear that you and your brother both share identically in this disease too.  As has already been posted, make sure to follow through with regular checkups & bloodwork.
