Need more information about Hepatitis

Hello!   I am hoping some of you might be able to help me a bit.  I have a good friend who was just diagnosed a few weeks ago with Hepatitis B.  She went in for a liver biopsy.  The results showed she has Hepatitis D.  She said D pretty much cancels out the B.  I know very little about Hepatitis and so I am trying to find out all I can since she has asked for my help in locating a second opinion doctor, trials, etc.

Does anyone here have B or D?  If so, what kinds of treatments are you on?  Has anyone tried any "natural" treatments?  Has anyone had a liver transplant?  Is anyone on any "trial" treatments?  ANY information you can give me will be most helpful!  Thank you in advance!!

This is the Hepatitis Social Community if it is only for Hepatitis C then I am in the wrong community.

Dear Concerned friend.

Hepatitis D is a type of viral hepatitis caused by the hepatitis D virus (HDV), which needs the hepatitis B virus to exist. Only people who are already infected with hepatitis B can be infected with hepatitis D.

HDV Co-infection - occurs simultaneously when first infected with the hepatitis B virus.

HDV Super-infection – occurs in persons with an existing chronic hepatitis B infection.

Treatment and Management – there is really no effective treatment for HDV. For an acute HDV infection, only supportive care for symptoms can be provided. For a chronic HDV infection, some doctors may try interferon-alpha, but this may only slow disease progression. Ultimately, a liver transplant may be required. There are other forums Hepatitis B for people with Hepatitis B  and a forum for people with Hepatitis C and my understanding is that this forum is called the Hepatitis Social community, if it is only for people with Hepatitis C then I must say there is nothing to indicate this to a new person visiting!. At the end of the day Hepatitis is a nasty condition regardless of whether it is... This is a hepatitis C forum, although there are people here that have liver transplants.  All of the trials talked about here are for Hep C.  I believe there is a separate forum for HBV.

There are people here that are knowledgeable in many aspects of all the diseases; unfortunately, I am not one of them.  I can answer questions you might have about how trials work, but not specifically anything about HBV.
