Nev. Clinic Creates Hepatitis C Scare

Six people who underwent procedures at the Endoscopy Center of Southern Nevada now have the blood-borne hepatitis C virus, the Southern Nevada Health District said in a statement.
A clinic may have infected a handful of patients with hepatitis C — but about 40,000 more should be tested for that virus, as well as for HIV, health officials said Wednesday.......

i was interviewed by the health department because i saw the dr. involved with this for a second opinion prior to treating with Gish. J____ from the health department called me yesterday to let me know what was going on.

i did NOT have a colonoscopy with this doc.

I am also in civil litigation for a hospital acquired case of acute hep c, but this occured year before last, not last Nov. as these cases did.

it's awful.

Please do NOT forego colonoscopy - it saves lives.  There is no substitute for having a doctor operating the apparatus.  He/she can revisit questionable areas, zoom in and focus on areas that require close scrutiny, and call for a consult in real time while the camera is on the affected area.

Make sure your doctor uses a reputable hospital or outpatient facility, but do not rely on any other method of screening for colorectal cancer.

I recommend swallowing the PillCam instead of having colonoscopy -- you have electrodes for camera attached, swallow a pill, go home and wait 10 hours or so, then you bring the camera back and flush the pill :-)

I swallowed the PillCam ESO to check my esophogas for varices... had none.  I would recommend this instead of endoscopy down the throat.  I had electrodes for camera attached, swallowed the pill, tech slowly elevated back of exam table and after 10 minutes I went home.  (flushed the pill...)

They upload images from camera onto their computer and view innards that way...

You need NO sedation whatsever, no clinic setting and best of all, no possible means of contamination!!  Each pill is unsealed right before use -- that triggers the camera to start flashing... Pretty cool technology...

This so shocking!  It should be closed down! Yet it does not surprise, When I went to have my endoscopy and colonoscopy. I felt like i was at a factory convyer belt. We didn't even change clothes or take off our shoes! (for the endoscopy anyway)

I think so many times Docs are all about doing procedures" for the insurance money!

It is crazy!  I have no words!

I agree! They act like its not a big deal! As long as they apologize its all better?! Well its not! These people make me sick! People constantly belittle this disease and act as if its no big deal and I am tierd of it! These people would not be so nonchilant if it was their family member it happened to! Or even worse- themselves! I don't even know what else to say!

Th whole article is scary but what struck me was the deepest was the very last line:

"To retain its state license and Medicare certification, the center faces increased on-site inspections and fines yet to be determined."

There must be a more severe penalty going on somewhere. Tared and feathered seems appropriate.

What is wrong with these people. Aren't they trained properly. Is it lazziness. Or is it a don't give a sh** attitude. Personaly I think the people involved should be prosecuted. This is happening too many times lately. Any Dr's office or Dentist's that doesn't clean their equipment properly and spreads a contagious desease should go to jail period.

Why should so many people have to suffer because of someone elses carelessness or lazziness.
