Testosterone Replacement For Men With Low Testosterone Improves Liver Function, Metabolic Syndrome

"Physicians often are reluctant to prescribe testosterone for conditions not related to sexual function," said the study's co-author, Farid Saad, PhD, of Berlin-headquartered Bayer Schering Pharma. "However, our study shows that testosterone has a much wider therapeutic role than just for improving sexual desire and erectile function."

I just wanted to post this here.  One of the members posted recently that, post-treatment, he'd finally been found to have low testosterone after having a hard time rebounding mentally after treatment.  Possibly this was actually caused by as-yet undetected physical issues.  Posting this for our male members who continue to experience some depression and having trouble recovering physically (not sexually) after treatment.   Maybe it's worth getting that testosterone checked?

I'm very glad to hear you're noticing such improvement, R.  It's terrific to see your statement "I felt great today" - I hope this continues for you and you have many more days where you're able to say "I feel great today".    You may have stumbled across something here that others coming off of treatment should be tested for when their symptoms and depression persist as they have for you and I'm glad the testosterone therapy is helping.

Last night was the 1st time in over 2 years that I had 8 hours sleep without putting myself in a drug induced coma. I felt great today.

My health had deteriorated so badly, I had no choice but start the injections immediately. With no appetite or time for it to work, proper diet was not an option. I have an appointment today and my plans are to discuss what I have to do, to eventually get off the injections. Now that I have my appetite back and energy, there should be hope. I have had 3 treatments in 3 weeks. This is week 4 so, hopefully it is not to late. I would like to see a specialist.

Before starting testosterone replacement, it is wise to try everything else possible as well as giving it some time to see if levels return to normal on their own. Once you start testosterone, you are on it for life.

I was placed on Androgel about 15 years ago since my HIV lowered my testosterone level to below normal range. I did not do any research and accepted my doctors RX although my energy and sex drive were fine. He didn't tell me this was a lifetime thing. I tried to ween off it and my energy got so horrible without it. The body cuts way back on production of natural testosterone once it becomes used to getting it from outside.

To be clear, if it stays very low for awhile with low energy or other symptoms and nothing "natural" helps, then consider testosterone replacement. But first, try Androgel before the injections.

Foods that increase testosterone

Many vegetables are high in estrogen like chemicals and these need to be avoided. Instead men should try and maximize their intake of vegetables rich in Indole 3 carbinol (I3C). I3C shuts down the system in a man's body that produces "bad estrogen" and switches up the production of "good estrogens" that are converted to testosterone. The vegetables that are rich in I3C are the dark green leafy ones, broccoli, kale, cabbage and Brussels sprouts. In fact all vegetables from the cruciferous group contain high levels of I3C.

The diet should be high in zinc, which is obtained primarily from meat. Vegetarians have to eat a large amount of peanuts, beans and pumpkin seeds to obtain zinc; it is not as easily absorbed from vegetable sources as from meat. Zinc is vital for male sexual function.

Vitamin A is important in testosterone production. Good sources of this in a healthy diet are the dark green leafy vegetables, salmon, and red and orange fruits and vegetables.

Salmon has an added benefit in that it reduces a chemical in the blood stream called sex hormone binding globulin (SHBG). When testosterone encounters SHBG in the blood it is effectively mopped up and taken out of circulation.

If you are trying to increase your testosterone there are certain foods you should avoid. Caffeine is bad as it leads to over stimulation of the adrenal glands and then adrenal exhaustion, stopping testosterone production. Fried and fatty foods and sugar have the same effect. Adrenal exhaustion can also occur as the result of not enough sleep and too much stress

In general it can be seen that the foods that are recommended to increase the testosterone levels in the body are the same ones that are recommended in a healthy diet for every-one, particularly for a healthy heart. By following a good diet for your general health you are following a good diet to increase your testosterone.

Geeze, how much wider could it get? That alone is wider than a doublewide in Tennesseee.

This is true to my case and I wish that everyone that is having emotional trouble recovering from tx would have their testosterone/hormones checked.

Even though sexual desire is one of the main symptoms, there are far more.
For me it had gotten to the point that it actually felt as though I was still txing. I even lost 22 pounds in 2 months.

I always had my ups and downs with my recovery but something happened about 3 months ago that made me nose dive.
I haven’t followed up on my original post because I wanted to give the treatment time to prove it self.

As for now I am taking weekly injections for 3 weeks and then once every 3-4 weeks. I just had my second injection about an hour ago. Even though I have a long way to go, there has been some major improvement. I even have my appetite back.

I am reluctant to post it as “cure” because of the recovery roller coaster ride I have been on. I want to be sure that this is not just another high point followed by another plummet. I will keep everyone posted, R Glass.

I know, without a doubt, the treatment messed with my female hormones for nearly a year after treatment, so I'm sure men are no different. My husband had some pretty severe depression, anger, and mood swings (I wanted to lock him in the shop!) when his testosterone was low -caused by thyroid weirdness...(He is 45 yrs old). -and we had an awful time convincing the Dr his problem was hormonal...~MM
