To borrow and twist from Cool Hand Luke: "Some Gals you just cain't heppp."
"Thanks girls for all the education! "
Looks like Bug has weighed your input.
"must be occompanyied by a shower or wet nap "
So when do you take the nap? Before, during, or after? Personally, I lean towards "after", while peculiiarly my partners seem to have a preference for "during". Go figure.
Good for you! Thanks for so much info. When I'm with a patient during toilet transfers, I'm amazed at how many women carelessly wipe from back to front. I try to stop and educate them, but old habits are hard to break.
Some of the continuous bladder infection patients are also dehydrated, and a large number are probably due to the inability to fully empty the bladder. I've found that leaning to the right and left also helps provide pressure in different areas and I've told women that who are unable to lean forward. (Hip replacements have restrictions)
Thanks girls for all the education!
I had a UTI 3 times on tx and have had 2 since. Prior to that I had had 2 during my entire life.
I find drinking a lot of water helpful (there always seemed to be correlation between me being dehydrated and getting the UTI) and I always have alkalizing sachets in the cupboard.
The scare the *** out of me so I try to be hyper-vigilant about correct procedures regarding peeing and blotting.
Lol, can't believe I wrote that last sentence, and even thinking about having a UTI makes me want to pee...
Hi Trish, hope all else is well in your world.
I've had 3 severe kidney, bladder (UTI) infections post tx. The last one I was in/out of ER 4 times in 10 days due to fever kept getting to 104 (was told to keep coming back when it hit 103 and couldn't get it to stay low), IV'd antibiotics 3 times, etc. The last one I was SOOOO ill with it also. One Doc suggested I may have a tilted bladder (what your talking about) , but rarely got them before tx and ....since we're doing details ;).....sex in water, a bladder infection will arrive fast with many women, sex in general also. Any women that has reoccurring bouts with UTI's needs to be sure her spouse has washed 'it' before sex, seriously folks-no laughing.....to keep the germ exposure down, from entering your urinary tract during sex. It's a preventative tip for women more susceptible to them. The meds that work for me cost me $160.00 for 10 pills, I ran up over $9000.00 at ER's .....he's washing it first, lol! Spontanious sex with us more prone must be occompanyied by a shower or wet nap ( I am cracking up here, but it's all true, my Dr. said :)
I started buying organic, concentrated cranberry juice and drink a glass a couple times a week now, also to fend them off.
Hope this is useful for you, tho your hubby may be offended ;) if you tell him you can't have his 'germs' anymore :)

P.S. While we question so many issues post tx, and will never know on many of them, I still lean towards our immune sytems just get whacked and don't fully go back to 'normal', for some of us.
I've learned to use saline spray in my nostrils and lean over the sink to let it all drain.
When I sneeze, I do a little exercise....but that's a different story.
Reading about your mum passing
you mentioned she was having trouble weeing and i keep getting a serious of infections would you mind if i asked how she passed?takecare.
Maybe you too should lean forward when you pee? I mean, if it works for one infection, why not the other? thinking..... thinking.... Oh... I see. That doesn't make much sense. Better to lean when you sneeze, huh?
I didn't have bladder problems, but I seemed to have an increase in sinus infections and I wondered if it was due to my weakened immune system post treatment. I'm susceptible to sinus infections and they seemed to be worse and more frequent post tx.
Denise - thanks for that. Maybe, just maybe, an immune system recovery thing and requires a bit of extra diligence.
Marcia - no worries. Appreciated the extra insight.
meakea - perhaps I've simply gotten too complacent. My immune system took awhile to recover post treatment and that might account for the first one, particularly it's stubbornness in eradicating. This one, not so much. I used to do the "lean" - and lately, I don't recall so I'll simply have to make sure. Thanks for the nudge.
Sorry you're having UTI issues -- I know how uncomfortable and frustrating they can be. I don't have post treatment experience with this since I'm only 7-8 weeks post tx but can can add this:
As in your case, not completely emptying the bladder is a very common cause for UTIs or bladder infections. You probably already know this little trick but, in case you don't, my Mom's doc told her to lean forward towards the end of her urinary stream and it will reposition things inside enough to empty more out of the bladder.
Sorry, if my post sounded like you were attributing it to hep c. My post might have sounded a little insensitive to your problem.
I hope you will be able to find a solution, it must be horrible to have this condition. I had it once some years ago and it spread to the gyn area. I had a high fever for almost 1 week and was on heavy antibiotics.
I really hope you will be able to get this cured.
Marcia
Yes, I did. Twice in the first 6 or so months post TX
Denise
I wasn't suggesting that the original problem was Hep C related. It had been taken care of and has been gone for some time before diagnosis and treatment. I just found it frustrating that it seems to have come back post treatment and wondered if the one had anything to do with the other and if anyone else had this experience post treatment.
From what I know, it is quite common for women, especially if one has given birth to several children, to end up with that problem. My late mother had the same problem, her bladder wouldn't empty fully and she would end up having frequent infections. She had a small operation and that took care of the problem forever.
I also had a colleague with the same problem. She equally had an operation and was cured.
None of them had hep C ...
