forensic studies on drug paraphanalia

Puncture injuries from discarded syringes continue to increase and testing these syringes for viral markers of HIV, HBV and HCV infection is now frequently requested. Workers in forensic medicine also regularly deal with potentially infected material. A simulation study was carried out. Syringes (with attached needles) and cotton gauze were contaminated with HIV, HBV and HCV infected blood or serum and tested at intervals over five weeks. Sensitive ELISA techniques, giving a result within three hours, were used to detect viral antibodies (HIV, HCV) or antigens (HBV). Blood residues inside the syringes and on the gauze gave positive results for viral markers throughout the period of study

just read this on a site

Extra-Hepatic Manifestations Of Hepatitis C:
When Hepatitis C Virus (HCV) is left untreated, it can result in liver disease and even liver cancer. In addition to the liver, there are many other conditions associated with Hepatitis C, known as extra-hepatic manifestations.

Extra-hepatic manifestations refer to the diseases or health conditions that affect the organs other than liver. It usually occurs when the immune system is unable to fight off the virus.

People with chronic Hepatitis C are more susceptible to the development of extra-hepatic manifestations, which can be found in the kidneys, the skin, eyes, joints, immune system and the nervous system.

Hard to imagine a drug dealer boldly ignoring accepted sanitation practices. Next thing you know they will be cutting in line for theater tickets!   ;-)

As i understand it...the HCV causes no damage directly to other organs like the brain or heart...its just the liver....thats just the way it is....BTW...ive seen dealers go the washroom....come back without washing hands  and chop coke...fine way to get hep A or B....not the C tho...blood borne

My Concern when posting this was that if those Viruses HIV and HCV can live 5 weeks without a host What the heck can they do with a Host
Then I read CO's post about HCV traveling to the brain through the spinal cord attached to other cells
What stops the virus from traveling to all organs and how does Interferon what ever combo used eradicate the virus throuout the whole system  does the interferon also attach itself to cells traveling through the body as HCV killing the virus throughout the body
Just amazes me that the virus can live so long and most likely longer than 5 weeks without a host ?
I am doing a lot of research before tx and trying to at the same time prepare my body to tx
I have read some how interferon works and for now it is the only means of reducing viral load and stopping progression of the disease wrecking havoc on our bodies
but since the HCV virus can travel throughout the body (if this is true) must be as the Pancreas as I am IR is affected like in my case 45 years  My brain is also affected and I have many neurological problems causing me Pain  plus the GI pain from IBS and Gastritis  I cannot blame my situation and symptoms all on HCV but most I believe are from HCV  My genetics and High Stress work I have a predisposition to these ailments

I am doing all this research before I tx  as I am older and if I want to live longer which I do I want to be sure it is the most quality life I can have I do not want to end up worse off than I am now
Thank you for posting that wow that is a scary thought that so many people are being infected just from drug paraphanialia and the drug use itself  HMMM
